The Structural Mechanics Applications Group supports a variety of government programs investigating dynamic phenomena including hypervelocity penetration, reactive material physics, material characterization, and weapon system evaluation. The group leverages its proprietary solver, Velodyne, which is a predictive multi-physics hydro-structural solver involving shock physics to understand and predict what happens to matter (gas, liquid, or solid) under extreme loading conditions, and involves structural mechanics to analyze the behavior of solid structures when exposed to applied mechanical loads.
Qualifications
Knowledge of structural dynamics and mechanics, numerical methods, and finite element analysis
Working knowledge of CAD and numerical grid generation techniques and applications
Experience with FEA software (Ansys, Abaqus, LS-Dyna)
Background in physics, mechanicalengineering, or material science with computer modeling and simulation interests
