Job Description The Microbiology Technician, under the direction of the Quality Assurance Management team, provides support to the factory in microbiological analysis of finished product, utilities and raw materials for the positive release of materials meeting specifications. The Microbiology Technician will be responsible for monitoring production, quality data, sampling, testing and providing results to Quality team. The position requires in-dept knowledge of basic microbiology methods and technology. This position also requires effective communication skills to work with a variety of cross-functional customers. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Sampling, qualitative and quantitative microbiological examinations of data. Prepares, reviews, and reports results of microbiological analyses; maintain and document records in accordance with established procedures. Maintenance of the environmental monitoring program including sampling, testing, data entry and reporting results. Works with Quality, Product Development, and Food Safety teams to ensure integrity of micro data. Performs other duties as assigned. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports directly to the Quality Manager Qualifications JOB REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, Food Science, or related technical field. Undergraduate course work including microbiological analysis or equivalent work experience. Skills Effective communicator with training, facilitation, and supervisory skills. Problem solving skills. Must be capable of working with minimal direct supervision and have strong prioritization, interpersonal and self-initiative skills. Computer skills to include proficiency with the Microsoft Word and Excel required. Access, SAP and Statistical software experience is preferred. Expertise in microbiological analysis. Ability to work flexible hours including weekends. Safety and Environmental Associate shall follow factory safety & environmental objectives & targets follow the plant safety rules, report incidents & unsafe conditions immediately, maintain compliance with regulations, and refer to the Safety & Environmental Management System(s) on all related procedures and programs. Understand the environmental aspects of the position, as indicated on the aspects and impacts sheets, and take action to reduce these environmental impacts by conserving paper, electricity, water etc. Will also recycle all appropriate materials (paper, plastic, food, etc.) Quality Associate shall follow factory food safety, quality objectives & targets follow Nestle Good Manufacturing Practices, report food safety and quality issues immediately, maintain compliance with regulations and refer to Nestle Quality Management System on all related procedures and programs. Position The Senior Microbiologist, Product Development will be a technical leader, bringing the science of microbiology in a pharmaceutical application to the development and maintenance of equipment, cleanrooms, and processes used in the manufacture of radioisotopes. This includes gathering technical information about engineering system/set up and managing the implementation of novel radioisotope manufacturing technologies. The Senior QAPD Microbiologist will develop and execute microbiological methods and validations from concept phase through design, planning, and execution, as well as coordinating with other departments. This person is also responsible for working with cross functional teams, including RA/QA and Engineering, to apply efficient cGMP processes, to preserve data integrity and quality of the drug product, and to ensure the safety of all production and non-production personnel. Responsibilities Drive the development of overall microbial validation strategy for pharmaceutical application to development of equipment used in the delivery of radioisotopes. This would include developing and executing methods and validations from concept phase through design, planning, and execution as well as coaching other team members. Assist lab management. Be the primary point of contact for microbiology laboratory supplies, instrumentation, and environmental monitoring program activities. Develop, plan, implement, and support microbiological development projects in collaboration with cross-functional teams with an overall focus on microbiological safety. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: * Adhere to all quality systems including, but not limited to, ISO 22000, NSF, and GLP guide-lines, with an understanding of IFF's Quality Policy and procedures. * Perform routine lab testing with accurate and timely recording of test results into the SAP Quality Management module and utilize lab reference materials for information regarding testing. * Understand and follow procedures of the department for the proper calibration and use of the department's equipment. * Understand and follow Good Manufacturing Practices for the care, handling, and storage of food and Dietary Supplement products. * Perform environmental sampling procedures. * Follow and enforce laboratory safety procedures. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES * Must have bachelor's degree in chemistry, Microbiology, Biology or similar field, or associate degree with at least 1 year relevant experience. * Must be knowledgeable about the analyses and tests performed in the Quality Control de-partment. * Must have the ability to work as an active team member as well as independently. * Must have strong math and good communication skills (both verbal and written). WORKING CONDITIONS This position operates in a laboratory environment 95-100% of the time. Exposure to hazardous materials training is required. Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as appropriate in accordance with plant policy.
