Mizuho's Project Finance platform is a global business and consistently top ranked in the Americas. Based in NY, the team provides a broad range of financial advisory, debt structuring and arrangement for large-scale, capital-intensive projects across the full infrastructure spectrum: oil & gas, mining, renewables, conventional power transmission, data centers, and transportation for both greenfield and acquisition financing. Role Summary:
Play a critical role in structuring, originating and executing non-recourse project finance transactions in the Natural Resources sector
Lead efforts to prepare and develop client marketing materials with support of Analyst and Associates and oversight by Senior Bankers
Cultivate relationships with top-tier and emerging developers active across the Natural Resources sector
Work closely with internal partners across Capital Markets include Debt Capital Markets, Equity Capital Markets, Financial Sponsors, Rates / Derivatives, Risk, etc.
Mentor, develop and train Analysts and Associates across the platform to expand team capabilities
Duties and Responsibilities:
Independently perform the above function. The assignment will involve preparation of marketing materials and proposals, calling on clients, attending bank meetings, making presentations, negotiating for mandates, reviewing legal documents and negotiating with clients, structuring transactions, research work, analysis of existing or potential transactions and/or industries, analyzing various risks and preparing credit applications and the development of cash flow models. Origination and execution of transactions and client service are of greatest importance.
Specific duties include:
Develop and implement business plans. Work alongside senior bankers to manage client relationships, including proposals, pitches and mandates
Work in partnership with Investment Banking and the Financial Sponsors Group to originate new project finance opportunities comprised of advising and lending as well as obtain mandates and/or execute non-recourse and limited recourse financings
Perform the necessary research and analytics (including financial statement analysis and cash flow modeling) required to accomplish the above
Ability to prioritize responsibilities across multiple transactions and proactively manage junior staff and deal team accordingly
Perform execution of arranger, agent and financial advisory work
Lead the preparation of credit applications for all new transactions, manage the credit process with the Credit Department and back office, perform any due diligence activities, and negotiate documentation
Cross-sell other Mizuho financial services, including, but not limited to: ECM, Derivative Solutions, DCM, Financial Advisory and Ratings Advisory
Contribute to the development and execution of the group's overall business plan
Stay abreast of industry trends and current market conditions and collaborate with the Team Leader to establish a business strategy for Natural Resources client accounts
Support marketing and origination of new transactions by prospecting for new clients, preparing pitch books or other marketing materials and attending client meetings with senior colleagues
Delegate and review the work of junior members of the team and provide guidance and feedback
Attend bank meetings, industry events, conferences, and seminars
Ensure compliance of all internal and external matters in accordance with banking regulations, bank policy and best practices
Perform other duties as required or assigned
Requirements:
MBA, MS or LLM degrees with a strong quantitative background, or other relevant work experience
7+ years' experience in Project Finance and 5+ years' credit experience in a commercial bank
Existing client relationships with top and mid-tier sponsors
Established relationships with other project finance banks working in the region as well as ECA's, multi-laterals and development banks
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Strong analytical skills
Advanced skills in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
The expected base salary ranges from $250K - $275k. Position Overview
The Vice President of Debt Private Placements is a senior-level role responsible for the origination, structuring, and distribution of traditional 4(a)(2) debt private placements. Responsible for independently managing a portfolio of Project Finance transactions across oil & gas, renewable energy, infrastructure, power, and mining sectors. This role involves conducting comprehensive credit analysis, reviewing contracts, cash flow models, borrower requests, and budgets to provide recommendations on internal ratings and borrower approvals. Additional responsibilities include preparing internal and external reports and responding to audit inquiries.
Key Responsibilities:
Credit & Portfolio Management
Monitor the credit quality of borrowers; promptly report any changes to the Credit Department and Management.
Prepare recommendations on borrower requests with thorough credit impact analysis.
Conduct ongoing transaction monitoring and update credit ratings as needed.
Perform periodic credit rating reviews and reporting in line with internal policies and procedures.
Communicate adverse developments to Management in a timely manner.
Maintain strong relationships with Agent banks and Borrowers.
Coordinate loan administration with the back office.
Provide support to Origination team as required.
Administrative Duties
Maintain accurate credit files, financial records, legal documents, and related information.
Collect and verify Know Your Customer (KYC) documentation and onboarding requirements.
Track and follow up on pending items in internal portfolio management systems including covenant monitoring.
Collaborate with other departments on administrative matters.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Other Responsibilities
Mentor and guide junior staff to foster independent work capabilities.
Assist Management with ad-hoc requests.
Attend site visits and bank meetings (domestic and international) as needed.
Qualifications
Eligible to work in the U.S.
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or Business Administration; advanced degree (MBA, MS, LLM) preferred.
Minimum 3 years of experience in Portfolio Management for Project Finance transactions.
Strong ability to analyze credits, contracts, cash flow models, and deal structures.
Excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical skills.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to organize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Spanish language skills a plus.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in managing the overall Banking Americas portfolio.
Manage the Business Selection Committee (BSC) pipeline for capital allocation proposals to ensure that all proposals are submitted in a timely fashion and are signed off by the Portfolio Management team.
Provide onboarding advisory solutions of new capital requests to Banking Americas including but not limited to:
Provide comments and observations on BSC presentations prior to final submission for committee review.
Validate data entry on the profitability models to ensure that the proposed and existing transactions are modelled correctly.
Guidance and advisory on profitability metrics including offering solutions to maximize/improve profitability.
Point of contact for deal teams for client capital onboarding and strategic deal advisory.
Non-bias scrutiny of client value propositions at the point of origination to make deal teams aware of potential challenges from the BSC that could be addressed during negotiations.
Advise deal teams on achieving target risk appetite with the use of various risk mitigation tools in order to support the execution of transactions and generate ancillary cross selling opportunities for core clients.
Be a center of excellence for bank profitability metrics, capital calculations, and to provide advisory and education to bankers and product partners at point of origination.
Provide transparency to risk mitigation tools/costs to meet potential risk appetite thresholds ensuring costs are factored into profitability metrics.
Track client and portfolio profitability to ensure BSC cross sell promises/forecasts from product partners are delivered.
Monitor Banking Americas portfolio using early warning indicators for sectors and specific credits.
Actively scrutinize single names and sectors post origination to identify potential credit migration risks forming proprietary views and developing recommendations.
Perform fundamental credit risk deep dive assessments on sectors and specific credits triggered by early warning indicators to form a view and develop action plan.
Coordinate internally with Sector Team Leaders to forecast and report Banking Americas credit charges.
Regular and Ad-hoc reporting on portfolio composition and various risk metrics.
Anticipate, assess and analyze event driven risk on portfolio (natural disasters, political instability, systemic shifts in industry business models).
Advise and/or manage stressed and distressed credits in the portfolio.
Identify issues with transaction booking, correct errors in booking systems, and ensure that collateral protections are properly reflected in order to get the right impact to the Bank's balance sheet and P&L.
Assist with other administrative duties and projects, including the execution of live transactions, as assigned.
Periodic ad-hoc projects.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS OR EXPERIENCE:
Eligible to work in the US
Four-year college degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or Economics or strong quantitative background.
3-5 years of credit portfolio management or relevant experience.
Strong understanding of banking products including documentation (loans, trade finance, leasing, securitization, project finance, etc).
Understandings of regulatory capital, RWA calculations, and Basel accord.
Understanding of Credit Default Swaps, Credit Risk Insurance, Loan Sales, and other risk mitigation products.
Cross sector expertise is a plus
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Strong PC skills, including knowledge of MS Word, Power Point, and Excel (including Capital IQ and Bloomberg).
