Complete room set-up and tear-down to accommodate scheduled activities including recreation programs, meetings, special events, and rentals.
Maintain and clean indoor facility space.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Develop annual department/division budget and yearend projections as outlined in the annual budget calendar. Communicate budgetary requests as needed and educate direct reports on the approved annual budget. Continuously monitor budget performance throughout the year, adjusting for unexpected expenses or fluctuations in revenue as appropriate. Approve expenditures.
Optimize traditional and alternative revenue sources available for programming and department objectives.

Hours
This position is full-time hourly position with a minimum of 40 hours a week. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as an on-site supervisor for Day Camp. Manage daily program operations, supervise and support staff, ensure child safety and supervision standards, and address parent and camper concerns in coordination with the Youth Recreation Supervisor.
Assist with CARE (before/after school program) by managing assigned administrative duties, serving as the primary substitute for Site Directors, working directly within the program at least one hour each day to accommodate early release school schedules, supporting staff in behavior management, and communicating with parents as assigned.
Develop, oversee, and evaluate the Days Off and Parent's Night Out programs, including planning age-appropriate activities and schedules, coordinating and guiding staff and volunteers, managing registration and waitlists, and providing clear, timely communication to parents, staff, and participants.
Manage administrative tasks for youth programs with accuracy and timeliness, including preparing monthly attendance and sign-in/out forms, monitoring program forms for completion, developing camp bus schedules and calendars, internal program flyers, incident/accident and behavior reports, etc.
Research, plan, and coordinate field trips and program entertainment. This process includes assessing options, preparing detailed plans, ensuring contract and payment requirements are satisfied in advance of each event, and communicating effectively with staff to ensure a safe, engaging, and well-organized experience.
Oversee the annual Day Camp swim tests and Open House, ensuring a welcoming experience for families and a well-organized, efficient process.
Assist Youth Recreation Supervisor with recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff and volunteers.
Provide support in staffing CARE and Day Camp; fully responsible for scheduling staff for Days Off and Parent's Night Out programs.
Support staff development by assisting with planning and leading aspects of annual training programs, providing on-site coaching and feedback, reinforcing expectations, modeling positive leadership and behavior, and promoting accountability within a growth-oriented team environment.
Maintain positive and professional relationships with program families by responding to inquiries, addressing concerns, and keeping families informed about program activities and participant experiences

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: A minimum of two years' experience in the recreation field, along with successful and progressive experience working with children individually and in groups from ages 3 to 12.

Skills: Ability to understand and respond to the needs and concerns of staff, parents, and children by providing accurate information and developing effective strategies to support program success. Under the direction and supervision of the Camp Site Director and Youth Recreation Supervisor, the L.I.T. is responsible for assisting in the supervision of program participants and the planning and implementation of age-appropriate activities. The L.I.T. is expected to work with children in a group situation and to provide a safe day camping experience to participants.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Organize and conduct activities in games, aquatics, nature, crafts, sports, and camping skills to the participants.
Encourage individuals to participate in group activities and to reach their needs through these activities
Help plan and organize the day camp program for the individual participants and the unit, keeping in mind the needs of each individual camper
Lead activities
Be knowledgeable of the daily schedule and calendar
Act as a role model for young children
Provide a safe environment for campers
Perform related work as required by the Day Camp Counselor and/or Site Director
Supervise and participate with participants in the water while at aquatic facilities
Work with other staff members as a team
Provide customer service and friendliness to all participants and parents
Greet the campers by name and parents on a daily basis
Report any problems to the Site Director
Communicate information, as needed, to staff members and patrons
Maintain an approachable appearance and be friendly to participants and parents
Attend all staff meetings and trainings
Arrive on time as scheduled and dressed appropriately for work
Assist with set up and cleanup
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Be knowledgeable of phone locations and the telephone numbers for the police, fire, and paramedics
Perform related work as required by Youth Program Coordinator, Youth Recreation Supervisor and/or the Site Director
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Must be 15 years of age by the start of camp training and completion of his/her freshman year of High School and have experience working with children
Education: A basic knowledge of children's needs as they relate to a day camp setting
Skills: Knowledge of age characteristics and appropriate activities for children, ability to lead, participate and organize children in a variety of recreation activities; maturity, good judgment and leadership ability
Certifications: Must have a work permit through schools on file with the Gurnee Park District. CPR, First Aid and AED certification is required or willingness to obtain within two weeks
Competencies: The ability to learn new skills and lead activities in an indoor/outdoor based recreational setting. Ability to work with others.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Your job may entail swimming, climbing, running, crawling, bending, kneeling, and sitting when working/playing with children. Occasionally movement of supplies, equipment, or moving a child is necessary in which case the maximum weight that you are expected to be able to lift is 25 lbs., though typically it will be less than this.
