Expertise in excavating, backfilling, and compacting trenches in and around existing utilities. Competency in efficiently installing underground improvements, including domestic water, force main and lift station sewer, gravity storm, gravity sewer, and underground retention systems. Knowledge of all piping types, including RCP, CMP, DIP, PVC, HDPE, HP, etc. Competency of culverts and large underground conveyance. Ability to communicate respectfully with customers and employees both verbally and in writing. Fully understands the requirements of 811 Utility Locates. OSHA 30 CDL A, a plus RESPONSIBILITIES Supervise crews consisting of two to six laborers and/or equipment operators. Interpret project plans and specifications. Perform physical work such as heavy equipment operation, pipe laying, and labor. Work efficiently to meet strict deadlines. Ability to enforce and abide by Federal, State, Local, and Company safety policies while completing satisfactory and quality work. Ability to maintain a safe work environment for crew members and the public. Safely manage productive work in confined spaces and trench excavations. Ability to operate GPS equipment and train crew on its operation. Ability to coordinate crews, material delivery, and equipment, for effective pipe installation. Effectively complete daily logs, Toolbox Talks, delivery logs, inspection reports, etc. Maintain equipment by keeping it clean and in proper working order. Report and document any damaged or unsafe equipment to the PM immediately. Contribute vital information to PM regularly and in job meetings that effect positive change. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, and crew performance. Reads grade stakes to ensure utilities are installed per plans and specifications. Provides direction for the installation of utility lines to meet code and ensure compliance with public utility standards. Coordinates with codes and utility inspectors to ensure compliance with installation. Ensures the safety of the project by adhering to all OSHA safety standards. Be sure the crew is following all OSHA regulations, wearing hard hats, safety glasses, safety vests, safety shirts, and proper footwear. Communicates effectively with other trades or subcontractors regarding scheduling and coordinating work to meet deadlines. Effectively identifies and resolves potential problems, work interferences, and schedule difficulties. Works with PM and discusses a 2-5 day “look ahead” schedule. Obtains dump folder for each job. Review and approve each employee's times and work hours. Report any violations of the employee handbook to the HR director immediately. Report tardy or absent employees to the HR director immediately. Handle personnel and other complaints from your crew. If you cannot handle or solve the issue, advise your PM and the HR director. Make sure your job is cleaned up daily. All debris is cleaned up, tools placed back in the truck, areas roped off or secured, signage in place, and equipment parked in a neat row and secured. Equipment is greased daily and maintains proper levels of fuel, hydraulic fluid, and engine oil. Coordinate equipment moves with PM. Communicate rain days with the PM and all field employees. In the event of rain, advise the crew on the start time, visit the job, and discuss with PM on starting or stopping a project. Nights and weekends may be required based on project demands. Attend Superintendent meetings. Enforce company policies concerning the Drug-Free Workplace and follow company policies in the event of an accident. Deliver first-class customer service to employees and customers. Other duties as assigned.
