In this role, you will:
Take comprehensive medical histories from patients.
Review and assist with provider inbox management and related tasks.
Ensure that the provider addresses all lab and radiology results; coordinate with the nursing team as directed by the provider.

Assign and prioritize tasks to effectively manage workflow within the office.

Oversee training and competency assessments of all Medical Assistants.
Maintain accurate and consistent lab documentation required for regular inspections, including state inspections.
Assist with managing work quantity and quality, ensuring quality care is the top priority.
Collaborate with management to develop departmental goals aligned with the organization's objectives.
Draw blood from patients and assist in specimen collection and processing.
Prepare patients and exam rooms for visits and procedures, and assist providers during physical exams and in-office treatments.
Clean, sterilize, and maintain medical equipment and instruments to ensure patient safety and infection control.

Provide guidance to MAs on proper specimen handling and processing.

Key Responsibilities
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at NYCBS, you will be integral to the care and support of both patients and the medical team. Your primary responsibilities will include:
Patient Care: Update and maintain patient records (vital signs, demographics, medication reconciliation, allergies, diagnoses) within the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
Support & Coordination: Manage physician inbox messages via Onco EMR, prioritize tasks, and assist in maintaining medical inventory, including placing orders and stocking exam rooms.
Patient Interaction: Answer phone calls, greet patients, ensure a welcoming atmosphere, prepare examination rooms, and educate patients on medications, disease management, and treatments.
Clinical Support: Assist physicians during exams or procedures, administer injections, perform phlebotomy, collect lab specimens, and conduct point-of-care lab testing (e.g., EKGs, Genetic testing, Liquid Biopsies).
Medication Administration: Administer medications as per physician orders, ensuring accuracy and adherence to the five medication rights to reduce errors.

Quality Control: Run and document various lab tests including glucose monitoring, PT/INR, urine pregnancy, and fecal occult blood; conduct and troubleshoot quality control procedures and report critical values.
Electronic Documentation: Utilize Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) to enter, verify, and manage lab orders and clinical data.
Reference Lab Coordination: Package and send out specimens to external labs such as Labcorp and Quest, ensuring proper documentation and compliance.
Communication & Teamwork: Maintain professional communication with providers, staff, and patients, and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
Multi-Site Flexibility: Adapt to workflow changes and provide support across multiple NYCBS locations as needed.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Valid Medical Assistant Certification
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
At least 1 year of relevant experience in outpatient care or lab settings
Proficient in EMR/LIS systems (e.g., LABDAQ)

Review and assist with provider inbox management and related tasks.
Ensure that the provider addresses all lab and radiology results; coordinate with the nursing team as directed by the provider.

Transcribe in-office visits and phone consultations.
Maintain consistent communication with the nursing team to ensure efficient inbox management.
Provide patient education on relevant topics.
Assist with care management, inbox management, injections, and wound care.
