Set up, adjust, and operate all basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations. Support the activities of operations by setting up, adjusting, and operating a variety of machines. Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and quality. Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment to minimize downtime. Support the overall manufacturing process as needed.     This position will be responsible for setting up and operating a variety of numerically controlled machines. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: * Set up, adjust and operate vertical CNC, Horizontal Lathes, and Manual Machining Centers * Operate Fanuc, Siemens, and Okuma controlled machines * Maintain required tooling and fixtures * Establish indexing sequences, speeds and feeds, if different than program * Edit program or make modifications for CNC operations in absence of programmer * Supply information to correct, update, initiate setup sheets, tooling sheets and programs * Work with programmers on process and programs prove out * Recognize operating irregularities, make necessary adjustments * Plan and determine setup procedures and operating sequences on various machines, i.e., mills, lathes, drills, etc. * Select tooling, attachments, spindle speeds, tool feed rates, workpiece securing methods, supports, etc. which are best suited for the operation, machine and size of workpiece; in conjunction with routing sheets, work instructions * Check work to assure dimensional conformance to specifications * Work from complex and involved drawings and specifications * Use a variety of precision instruments and devices to setup, check and perform work * Instruct or train other operators as requested * Diagnose and rectify tooling and/or machining difficulties with minimum assistance * Recommend method changes to improve efficiency and reduce costs * Assists in keeping facility and equipment clean, neat, safe and operating efficiently * Comply with all established policy and safety guidelines in a drug-free workplace MINIMUM EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS: * High School Diploma or equivalent * 2 or more years of related experience * Certificate or diploma in CNC machining is preferred ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: * Demonstrated ability to read basic blueprints and follow specific instructions and procedures * Ability to organize, prioritize and plan daily work assignments in a self-directed changing environment * Mathematical skills that require the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and perform geometric, algebraic and trigonometric calculations * Must be able to perform metric conversions * Ability to use measuring equipment such as height gauges or verniers * Understanding of metal-cutting applications and machine practices * Strong attention to detail required PROTECTIVE CLOTHING/EQUIPMENT: * Steel-toe shoes * Eye protection WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
