* Ensures equipment is calibrated in accordance with schedule.
* Routinely maintains equipment to ensure cleanliness, accuracy, and reliability specific to division requirements.
* Accurately and regularly performs statistical process control (SPC) specific to division requirements.
* Uses advanced shop mathematics, which may include trigonometry, and general knowledge of metal characteristics and other processing requirements.
* Actively contributes to lean initiatives by identifying and providing suggestions on areas for improvement.
* Effectively applies lean concepts and tools in work area.

Job Purpose

Education/Certifications
High School diploma or GED
Completion of a Machine Tool Technology degree program or a Technical School Certificate in Machining or an equivalent number of years of machining experience is preferred.
Candidates that have completed the first year of a 2-year Machine Tool Technology program may be considered for employment contingent on the successful completion of the degree, certificate, or program.
Note: A completed 2-year degree in machining or machine technology is required to be promoted to the next level (transcript is required) along with required time in grade and completed promotional checklist.

Primary Responsibilities:
Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specification or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations and setup requirements.
Measures, marks and scribes' dimensions and reference points on material or work pieces as guides for subsequent machining.
Selects, aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines such as mills and lathes.
Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow and depth and angle of cut.
Operates and observes machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications- Sets up and operates CNC/manual mills and/or lathes- Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly
Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly- Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines and equipment and tests operations of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
Develops specification from general descriptions and draws sketches of parts or products to be fabricated.
Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
Other duties as assigned.

The Extrusion Operator is responsible for setting up jobs on the extruder. This includes changing the die set, putting on deckles, setting gaps on rollers, filling the extruder with materials, and maintaining the extruder to produce rolls of plastic to be sold or used in production.
