Giffin Interior is a nationally recognized architectural millwork manufacturer based just south of Pittsburgh. We build high-end commercial interiors and custom projects, and we're looking for a Millwork Engineer / CNC Programmer to join our Pre-Production team. This role blends engineering, machining logic, and real-world buildability to support our shop, production efficiency, and overall project success.

What You'll Do
Translate approved shop drawings into accurate engineering models and CNC-ready machining data.
Produce clean, consistent programming for nested-based routers, 5-axis equipment (Stiles / Homag), and our panel saw.
Ensure buildability, AWI compliance, and alignment with Giffin's standard construction methods.
Identify design conflicts early and collaborate closely with Drafting, Engineering, Production, Project Management, and Purchasing.
Prepare complete Work Order packages including machining details, hardware notes, and cut-related information.
Support the shop with troubleshooting, clarifications, and technical adjustments as needed.
Contribute to ongoing efforts to improve quality, throughput, and machine efficiency.
What We're Looking For
Experience in architectural millwork, casework, store fixtures, or other custom / engineer-to-order fabrication.
Proficiency with Microvellum (or other library-based engineering systems), plus strong AutoCAD skills.
CNC programming background; experience with Homag/WoodWOP is a plus.
Solid understanding of commercial AWI standards and typical millwork construction methods.
Strong ability to read drawings and translate concepts into accurate build instructions.
Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple active projects.
A team-player mindset and a drive for quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
We will also consider experienced fabricators/carpenters who have strong real-world AutoCAD skills (not just introductory training) and want to grow into engineering/CNC programming. Candidates from both union and non-union backgrounds are welcome-skill and capability matter most.

Cycle count plate inventory and maximize utilization through nesting, ensuring strategic consumption of raw materials. Compare on hand material to SAP counts
Reads and interprets manufacturer drawings and creates CNC files for plasma cutting tables, plate rolls and brake press to produce parts for fabrication
Qualifications
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required
Associates degree (A.A.), or equivalent from two-year college or technical school is preferred

What will your day look like? At Aerotech, you will
Program, set-up, and operate Mazak CNC machines in a precision machine shop environment
Regularly produce newly designed parts. This involves workholding selection, part process decisions, programming from scratch or modifying a similar program, detailed first part inspection, and process writeups
Inspect parts with tight dimensional and form error tolerances, typically in the range of 0.0002-0.0005 inches (5-12 microns). You will use bore gauges, gauge blocks, granite surface plates, digital and dial indicators, CMMs, and other precision measurement tools
Program and edit, set-up, and operate pallet changers, robot arms, bar feeders, and other automated load/unload equipment when medium or large batches are required
Select, align, and secure workholding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and accessories, typically to produce small batches of precision machined parts
Retrieve and edit Mazatrol CNC programs. Or for new programs, calculate and set controls such as speed, feed, and depth of cut.

Minimum required qualifications include High School Diploma or equivalent required. A 2-Year Technical Degree or completion of a relevant apprenticeship program required. Equivalent experience and on-the-job training may be considered in lieu of formal apprenticeship. 3-5 years of professional CNC machining experience required. Experience with CNC machinery and programming required. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics. Proficiency in using precision measuring tools and inspection equipment. Calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematical principles.
Additional desirable qualifications include experience with Fanuc, Siemens 840D, and HAAS controls preferred. Strong understanding of different metal types and machining characteristics. Ability to perform basic preventative maintenance on machines and tools. Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on CNC machinery, including Haas, FPT, VBM, and Toshiba. Perform first-article inspections and make necessary adjustments before full production runs.

Apply knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure accuracy in machining. Manage tools, assess tool life and wear, and utilize specialized tooling as required.Review daily job assignments and production schedules. Maintain accurate records of production output, scrap, and rework data. Ensure tools and equipment are properly calibrated and stored at the end of each shift. Participate in team meetings and provide feedback on process improvements. Report any mechanical issues or potential failures to the supervisor immediately. Follow all safety protocols to maintain a secure working environment.
