JOB SUMMARY
The Press Operator plays a vital role in our print production process by overseeing the operation and maintenance of our offset press. This position requires a high level of technical skill and attention to detail to ensure the production of high-quality printed materials. The Press Operator is responsible for setting up the press, loading plates, adjusting ink and water balance, monitoring print quality throughout the run, and performing routine maintenance to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime. This role is essential in meeting client expectations, maintaining production schedules, and upholding our commitment to delivering exceptional print products.
Responsibilities and Activities:
Sets up machines and maintains quality throughout the run per individual job.
Changes press plates, blankets and cylinders as needed.
Cleans inks fountains, plates and changes units as needed.
Runs machine at optimal speed to meet production standards.
Performs adjustments on machine to ensure maximum productivity.
Performs regular quality checks on all components to ensure quality standards are met.
Recalibrates equipment as required.
Sets colors.
Communicates job status and production concerns/issues during shift transition to ensure optimal productivity for the following shift.
Notifies Team Lead of quality issues.
Works with Team Lead to resolve concerns.
Ensures safety practices are followed.
Tracks job counts, make readies, waste as instructed with accuracy and attention to detail.
Spots defects in the print and corrects to essential functions of the job.

What will your typical day look like?

Follows process sheets for selecting and installing tooling, offsets, fixtures according to specifications to prepare machine for operation, use of engineering part drawings and process plans, performs first piece approval, uses precision measuring instruments to ensure machined items meet quality specifications, reports malfunctions of machining equipment and process deviations to appropriate personnel.
Responsible for the quality of work, which includes accurate counts and meeting production standards.
Looks for ways to improve the manufacturing process (new fixtures, tooling, combining operations etc.)
Checks cycle times, keeps work area clean and in order, follows all company safety procedures and guidelines.
Depending on machines, may load work programs, take offsets, find zero.

Performs all duties of the Model Shop Specialist
Work in a team environment with engineering and supervisory personnel to troubleshoot and resolve design, equipment, and operating difficulties.
Supports the production machine shop by giving directions, suggestions and advice on best operational sequences or tools for the desired outcome.
Gain thorough understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) thru provided classes. Train with CMM operator for understanding of tolerancing and positional accuracy.

Handle walk-ins to support a down machine or urgent job. This will require the planning of the repair a variety of tools and jigs with complicated nesting and locating features that are crucial for production and unique to each product line.

To be considered for the 2nd Shift Entry Level Machinist role, here's what you'll need to bring with you:
High School diploma or GED preferred. Otherwise, demonstrated ability to understand and apply all verbal, written and computer work instructions or training in English, and demonstrated ability to perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
At least one-year completion of an approved vocational program in Machine Technology or equivalent
Proficiency in general mathematics
Knowledge of machine shop gauges and machines
As an 2nd Shift Entry Level Machinist, you will:
Perform basic drill press, lathe, milling machine, and grinding operations.
Responsible for the care and application of turning/plunge and form tools.
Operate shear vise, tapping machine (manual and power), and understand different styles and types of taps and dies (metric and standard)
Operate different types of power hand tools, grinders, drills, belt sanders, disc sanders, sand, and bead blasters.
Operate and understand power band saw, cut off saw, proper selection of speeds, feeds, tooth size, blade welding, guide setting, and blade replacement.
Complete required paperwork
Other duties as assigned
