Oiler job description

An Oiler assists the Watch Engineer in operating, maintaining, and repairing the dredge's machinery.

Essential Job Functions

* Routinely makes rounds and complete logs accurately and clearly
* Reports any unusual machinery operation, noise, or vibration to the engineer
* Keep the bilges pumped down
* Clean up excess oil from around the machinery
* Keep oil pressures and temperatures within limits
* Keeps all fluid levels at their proper state
* Take soundings for the storage tanks, as directed
* Check all motors, bearing pumps, and glands for overheating
* Clean engines spaces and properly dispose of waste materials
* Grease machinery as directed
* Follow the Preventative Maintenance Schedule as directed
* Participate in all repairs and maintenance projects during idle periods
* Other duties as assigned

Requirements

* High School diploma or equivalent required
* Ability to work 84 hour work week
* Ability to live aboard vessel for full rotation
* This position requires fluent use of the verbal and written English language
* Computer literate preferred

* Merchant Mariners Credential with the following endorsements
* Oiler
* Basic Training
* STCW Medical Certificate
* Able Seafarer - Engine
* VPDSD - Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties
* RFPEW - Rating Forming Part of an Engineering Watch
* TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Physical Requirements

* Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels
* Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders that have capacity limits of 300 lbs.
* Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted

Summary:

• Under direct supervision, performs preventive maintenance of machines/equipment/tools and conducts required operational supply disbursements.

Responsibilities:

• Oils and greases moving parts of friction surfaces of mechanical equipment, such as shaft and motor bearings, sprockets, drive chains, gears, and pulleys, according to specified procedures and verbal instructions.
• Inspects tools, equipment and/or parts for defects and wear and reports damage or wear to Supervisors.
• Keeps all parts clean and orderly in the proper locations.
• Operates industrial vacuum truck to clean out industrial fluid tanks, overflows/containments, and carry out fluid spill response.
• Operates powered industrial truck to transport industrial fluids and supplies.
• Participates actively in team meetings.
• Participates in quality initiatives; continually improves processes; quantitatively monitors processes.
• Completes required training and development curriculum and uses skills and techniques presented.
• Adheres to company/customer policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle; must have valid license to operate a lift truck.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands/fingers to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb, ascend/descend or balance to heights that may require a ladder or lift; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in confined spaces; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. The employee is regularly required to use close vision and color vision. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. Work is typically performed in a factory environment and is usually very loud. In the factory environment, the employee may be exposed to hazardous materials and/or greasy or slippery factory floor

Polar Tankers Overview

Polar Tankers, a wholly owned subsidiary of ConocoPhillips, provides marine transportation for North Slope production, using five company-owned, double-hulled tankers in addition to chartering third-party vessels as necessary. The tankers deliver oil from Valdez, Alaska, to refineries primarily on the West Coast of the United States. The company operates five Endeavor-class tankers: Polar Endeavor, Polar Resolution, Polar Discovery, Polar Adventure and Polar Enterprise.

Description

If you are selected as the Offshore Oiler, you will be working under the direction of the First Assistant Engineer and the Junior Engineer. The Oiler must have a good understanding of all Engine room machinery and auxiliary systems to assist in recognizing trends, assisting with plant operations and troubleshooting, and responding to casualties. The Oiler is required to participate in all drills and emergencies and to assist with the enforcement of rules, procedures, regulations, and pollution prevention. In addition, the Oiler performs routine maintenance and assists engineers with repairs of shipboard machinery and is also responsible for making good rounds of the equipment, recording pressure and temperature readings, and reporting any anomalies.

This is a Safety Sensitive position.

Relocation is not available for this position.

Your responsibilities may include:

* Monitoring equipment and performing maintenance
* Cleaning main engine scavenge air box
* Cleaning lube and fuel oil purifiers and filters
* Tank soundings and topping off tanks as directed
* After being trained, assisting with crane and rigging operations
* Cleaning deck, engine room, and living spaces as required
* Performing general maintenance on all equipment
* Chipping, scraping, and painting equipment and structures
* Lubricating / greasing machinery
* Typically works 12-hour days (includes 4 hours of overtime)

Basic/Required:

* Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as a permanent resident, refugee or asylee
* Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination, by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination, or ConocoPhillips approved accommodation, required

All unlicensed employees earn paid leave on the basis of twenty-four (24) days paid leave for every thirty (30) days of sea service. Tour lengths range from 65-85 days with an average tour of seventy-five (75) days onboard and sixty (60) days of paid leave.

This position requires you to have a TWIC card (Transportation Workers Identification Card) to gain access to secure areas of Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) regulated facilities and vessels.
