Job Duties and Responsibilities
Designs machinery and material handling systems powered by pneumatics, hydraulics, electro-mechanical, rotary or other power transmission means to improve processes which reduce cycle time, material and tooling consumption, scrap, and extra processing steps.
Produces detailed assembly and part prints on Solid Works.
Evaluates manufacturing processes by conducting research, conferring with equipment vendors and various suppliers, and soliciting observations from operators while considering cost, quality, safety, delivery, and production capabilities.
Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design specifications.
Manages and prioritizes multiple project timelines.
Manages large capital projects inclusive of writing requests for appropriation of funds, preparing timelines, coordinating production down time and managing capital expense budget.
Employs proper Design of Experiment and statistical techniques to identify cause and effect of various production or engineering design deficiencies.
Evaluates existing production equipment and recommends design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
Interfaces with Electrical Engineer to establish appropriate PLC control of automated equipment.
Creates and maintains accurate documentation of drawings, design concepts, process sheets, procedures, and concepts in accordance with the Norris ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, or other related technical fields.
Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in heavy industrial machine design in a manufacturing environment.
Minimum 3 years' project management experience.
Skills:
High mechanical aptitude.
In-depth understanding and ability to execute manufacturing methods and processes.
High proficiency in modeling and drafting with Solid Works.
Working knowledge and understanding of Lean Manufacturing.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Proficiency in MS Office.Specifically, ability to utilize Microsoft Excel for design analysis, productivity analysis, statistical graphing of DOE results and ROI calculations.
Proficient with inspection instruments such as calipers, micrometers, tape measures, etc.
Ability to initiate and support change to the organization.
Ability to interact with all levels of management at the local and corporate levels.
Ability to handle multiple projects and complete work in a timely manner in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
Strong organizational skills.

Qualifications

Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Creo; experience with simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL) is desirable.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
Demonstrated creativity and attention to detail.
Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials selection, and quality principles.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in MS Office and standard engineering software tools.

RESPONSIBILITIES
