Job Position: Packer Job Location: Higginsville, MO Reports To: Shift Supervisor Job Summary: Inspector/Packer visually inspects all products being produced, properly segregates and packages the product. Inspector/Packer notifies proper team individual(s) when quality, product food safety, or production problems arise. Ensures that only quality product is packaged into finished cases. Inspector /Packer is aware of and implementing all the GMPs. Ensures the smooth flow of product through the packaging room by working at an efficient pace and by responding to equipment malfunction signals in the assigned packing area and assists other team personnel as required. Core Job Responsibilities: SAFETY must always be a PRIORITY ONE in your mind. Your own personnel and any and all persons that your actions will affect. Adheres to all good manufacturing practices (GMP), food safety, HACCP and SQF process requirements; rectify and/or report any and all non-compliance to Management or the SQF practitioner immediately. Ensures that adequate vital supplies, i.e., tape, bagging, knockdown cases, etc. are available to perform duties. Either obtains supplies or notifies Utility of requirements. Reports to all scheduled shifts and attends meetings as required Constructs carton to contain product, ensuring that proper carton is being utilized to hold product being produced. Visually inspects product through plastic bag or in bulk form prior to bagging. Inspects packaging for proper print and seal. Periodically opens random logs of product to perform close visual inspection. Notifies Production Leader or Production Equipment Operator immediately of any identified quality defects. Packs product into previously constructed cartons ensuring that the correct number of bags of product are packed according to product order specifications. Accurately counts the cups into the bag if hand bagging. Properly seals the carton and supplies proper stamping or labels, making certain that the code date is on each carton, correctly coded and legible. Sets aside defective product for correction or scrapping to make certain that no defective product reaches the customer. Works at an effective and safe pace to keep packing bins or stacking tubes clear. Assists other team members as required, without being asked. Assists the Pack-Tech in maintaining the packaging floor. Assures smooth flow of product through the packing room by responding to any product jams (bells, buzzers, and lights), clearing the product jam, and restarting the equipment properly and safely. Repackages products that have been mispackaged due to miscounts. Maintains housekeeping standards by keeping a clean work area at all times. In the event of the absence of the Inspector/Packer due to vacations the Shift Supervisor will request an Inspection/ Packer fill in from another shift. Performs other duties as assigned by Shift Supervisor. Competencies: Receive a “pass” on a pre-employment physical and drug screen Work a 12+ hour shift while standing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting, reaching, grasping and lifting throughout the entire shift. Requires the manual movement of repair parts and tools that may weight up to 50 pounds. Working in-doors in a manufacturing environment that is not air conditioned. Wear PPE while working which includes hairnet, hearing protection and safety glasses with side guards. Work a 12+ hour shift that begins at 8:00. Able to work weekdays, weekends and overtime as needed. Period of Performance: This contract is scheduled to begin April 1, 2023 and is scheduled to end on March 31, 2028, unless extended or terminated by the VA. Current Hours of Operation/Scheduling (Hours are in local time zones): Leavenworth: 6:00 AM 8:00 PM (staggered start times) Monday through Friday. Future operational hours may change, increase, or decrease, to include expansion to evening, weekend, or split shifts, based on workload demand or operational contingencies to include, but not be limited to, inclement weather, equipment failures, local, state, or Federal emergencies, workload transfers, and staffing shortages. Overtime may be required throughout the life of the contract, but is NOT guaranteed . Personnel Qualifications: Shipper/Packer Leads shall have three (3) years of managerial experience doing work of a similar nature. Shipper/Packers Leads shall have demonstrated experience in directing work assignments for other contractor staff, communication skills and interpersonal skills for effective peer interactions. Shipper/Packer Leads shall be able to be cross trained to cover other assigned areas, as needed . Have a high school diploma or GED. Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills with coworkers and staff. Have basic typing skills, PC computer skills, working knowledge of MS Office. Must read, understand, speak, and write English fluently under the authority of U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). Must be able to lift to 50 pounds when required; push or pull up to 150 pounds on a rolling cart or using a pallet jack. Able to sit/stand for long periods of time (8-10 hours) and being able to lift totes weighing up to 30 pounds repetitively. Must be able to understand the precautions required when handling hazardous materials and hazardous waste. Supervisory tasks include day to day administration of assigned operational area (production floor) and to coordinate activities with other productions areas. Orient new contract technicians and assist with the evaluating performance. Contractor Personnel Security Requirements All Contractor employees who require access to the Department of Veterans Affairs computer systems must be the subject of a background investigation. This requirement is applicable to all subcontractor personnel requiring the same access. If the investigation is not completed prior to the start date of the contract, the contractor will be responsible for the actions of those individuals they provide to perform the work for VA under this contract. Background Investigation The level of background investigation commensurate with the required level of access is National Agency Check with Written Inquiries. Must be a U.S. citizen, or must be otherwise lawfully admitted to, and working in the United States, and are able to read, understand, speak, and write English fluently. Employee must submit the any or all of the following documents to the LTSi Facility Security Officer in support of the background investigation process: Standard Form 85P, Questionnaire for Public Trust Positions Standard Form 85P-S, Supplemental Questionnaire for Selected Positions FD 258, U.S. Department of Justice Fingerprint Applicant Chart VA Form 0710, Authority for Release of Information Form Optional Form 306, Declaration for Federal Employment Optional Form 612, Optional Application for Federal Employment Must receive a favorable determination by the government to be considered for employment under this contract. If favorable determination is not granted, employee will be withdrawn from consideration of employment. Background Information Each contractor employee that has access to VA facilities or systems must complete a Special Agreement Check (SAC) Worksheet and deliver to the VA office responsible for fingerprinting and processing the Contractor employee(s). The Contracting Officers Representative (COR) will provide instructions to the contractor regarding the local procedures for fingerprinting and obtaining a Security Badge or PIV card. After completion of the fingerprint check, the Contracting Officer (KO) will notify the contractor company, in writing, if any Contractor employee is determined to be unsuitable to be given access to a government facility or VA system. If so notified, the contractor company must not allow such employees to perform work on this contract. Security Badge or PIV Cards VA will issue a Security Badge or PIV Card to each contractor employee who is to be given routine, unescorted access to VA facilities or access to VA systems and does not already possess a Security Badge or PIV Card. VA will not issue the Security Badge or PIV Card until the contractor employee has successfully cleared the FBI National Criminal History Fingerprint Check. Security Badge or PIV Cards must identify individuals as contractor employees. Contractor employees must always display their Security Badge or PIV Cards on their persons while working in a VA facility and must present their cards for inspection upon request by VA officials or VA security personnel. Primary Responsibilities: Cell phone use is not permitted on production floors. Contractor personnel are required to adhere to local facility policies regarding cell phone use and electronic devices. In the performance of this contract, contract employees must be neat, clean, well groomed, and must otherwise exercise good personal hygiene, in accordance with the supported CMOP policies. Attire must not interfere with the tasks associated with the job or pose a safety hazard to Contractor employees. Appropriate attire must be worn at all times. The Contractor must be responsible for assuring that contract staff adheres to CMOP dress code to include the wearing of apparel identifying them as an LTSi Contractor employee. Personal Protective Equipment The CMOP will provide disposable personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by OSHA for specific job functions as well as training on wear and use. Items provided must be worn by contract personnel to maintain OSHA standards and compliance. Steel toe safety shoes may be required in some facilities for some functions and will be the responsibility of the contractor. Steel toe caps and slip-on protective footwear will be made available by CMOP. Steel toe caps and/or slip-on protective footwear are not considered disposable. Contract personnel will be required to turn in damaged or worn-out protective footwear in exchange for new replacements.
