    A full-time research scientist is sought for the lab of Dr. Jenny Munson at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech. The Munson lab is an interdisciplinary research group of engineers and biologists that study the impact of fluid flow in glioblastoma. Specifically, the project will involve the oversight and creative development of a translational study examining the glioblastoma microenvironment. This translational study will utilize patient tissues in established pre-clinical in vitro model systems and histological tissue analyses to generate data for correlation with patient clinical data. The position's responsibilities will include: • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including biomedical engineering, cancer biology and clinical research partners. • Design, plan, and execute experiments to investigate cancer-related research questions. • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams • Analyze and interpret experimental data, and contribute to the development of research publications. • Present research findings at conferences and communicate results effectively to both scientific and non-scientific audiences. • Contribute to the development and optimization of laboratory protocols and techniques. • Mentor and train junior team members, including students and technicians. • Maintain accurate laboratory records and ensure compliance with safety protocols.     The Montague Lab at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC is seeking a Research Technician to complete general laboratory operations and collect data for in-vitro and in-vivo research projects. The lab is currently employing advanced quantitative methods to conduct leading-edge research on the role of neurotransmitters (dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine) in the human brain to understand human cognitive function and dysfunction. The research technician will be responsible for in-vitro data collection to inform in-vivo models of human neurochemistry. The technician will also be responsible for operating equipment in a clinical setting during study sessions with research participants. The successful candidate should be detail oriented, keeping careful records of interactions with participants in a hospital setting (such as in an operating room or recovery suite during their stay). The Agrawal lab studies neural circuits underlying flexible motor control by utilizing the compact genetic model organism, Drosophila melanogaster. We use a variety of cutting-edge techniques, including quantitative behavior with machine vision-based tracking, optogenetics, in vivo electrophysiology and 2-photon imaging, and EM-based circuit reconstruction. Specifically, we are interested in how animals use proprioceptive sensory information to navigate and move through an often unpredictable world. Proprioception is an animal's sense of the position and movement of its body, and it is essential for coordinated movement across the animal kingdom. Projects in the lab include understanding how proprioceptive information is relayed to the brain to integrate with motor planning, examining how neural circuits integrate wing and leg proprioceptive information in the insect CNS, and exploring how vibration sensing via the legs mediates courtship and other behaviors. Specific responsibilities for the on-site position include: 1) developing ecological forecasts (especially for lake and reservoir water quality) using a suite of models and datasets; 2) leading and co-authoring peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and data products; 3) providing guidance and mentorship to team members and supporting ongoing Center programs (including the Macrosystems EDDIE educational program); and 4) serving in a leadership role in the Center, which includes setting priorities, engaging partners, preparing reports, and collaborating with CEF co-directors and staff to apply for external funding.
