The Opportunity
As a Data Scientist II for Fraud, you will be responsible the development of machine learning models that improve USAA's ability to detect and prevent fraud on credit card, debit card, check, deposit, digital payments, as well as in other areas such as claims and disputes. Strong candidates will be able to deploy the following work products and processes:
Develop and continuously update internal fraud models in the transactions and payment space, demonstrating techniques ranging from statistics to highly sophisticated AI/ML techniques, to generate highly significant reduction in fraud losses and improvement in Member experience
Work with Strategies and Model Management teams to understand and plan model needs
Drives continuous innovation in modeling efforts
Collaborate with the broader analytics community to share standard methodologies and techniques

What you'll do:
Captures, interprets, and manipulates structured and unstructured data to enable analytical solutions for the business.

What you have:
Bachelor's degree in mathematics, computer science, statistics, economics, finance, actuarial sciences, science and engineering, or other similar quantitative field; OR 4 years of experience in statistics, mathematics, quantitative analytics, or related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
2 years of experience in predictive analytics or data analysis OR Advanced Degree (e.g., Master's, PhD) in mathematics, computer science, statistics, economics, finance, actuarial sciences, science and engineering, or other similar quantitative field
Experience in training and validating statistical, physical, machine learning, and other sophisticated analytics models.
Experience in one or more multifaceted scripted language (such as Python, R, etc.) for performing statistical analyses and/or building and scoring AI/ML models.
Ability to write code that is easy to follow, well detailed, and commented where vital to explain logic (high code transparency).
Experience in querying and preprocessing data from structured and/or unstructured databases using query languages such as SQL, HQL, NoSQL, etc.
Experience in working with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data files such as delimited numeric data files, JSON/XML files, and/or text documents, images, etc.
Familiarity with performing ad-hoc analytics using descriptive, diagnostic, and inferential statistics.
Experience with the concepts and technologies associated with classical supervised modeling for prediction such as linear/logistic regression, discriminant analysis, support vector machines, decision trees, forest models, etc.

How you'll spend your day

Position Definition:
We are seeking a full-time Statistician with expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, and/or bioinformatics to join an active research program based at the San Francisco VA Medical Center and the University of California, San Francisco. The position supports two NIH- and VA-funded research teams, within the areas of Infectious Disease and Hepatology, who are conducting high-impact studies using large-scale electronic health record and administrative data (“big data”), and other large relation datasets, to address clinically and biologically relevant questions related to the epidemiology of liver and infectious diseases, as well as healthcare utilization and outcomes research.
The candidate will work with national VA Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW) data, linked Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) claims, and other large relational datasets. Responsibilities include constructing clinical cohorts; extracting, cleaning, linking, and managing complex datasets; applying modern epidemiologic and biostatistical methods (e.g., survival analysis, longitudinal/multilevel modeling, competing risks regression, and causal inference approaches such as propensity score and inverse probability weighting); and developing reproducible workflows and documentation. Projects may also incorporate predictive modeling and machine learning approaches, and candidates with interest in AI applications (e.g., trustworthy AI, explainable AI, privacy-preserving analytics) will find opportunities to contribute.
The position requires strong skills in relational database querying (SQL) and statistical programming, with a preference for R and/or SAS. The successful candidate will have experience defining study cohorts and variables from raw EHR/administrative data, selecting appropriate analytic methods, and troubleshooting data or programming issues. They will also have the organizational skills to annotate code, maintain version-controlled documentation, and manage multiple concurrent projects.

AECOM is actively seeking an experienced Senior Ecologist/Statistician to join our California Natural Resources Group.
This is a full-time, remote position that can be based anywhere within the Western Region of the U.S. and will report directly to our Southern California NR team.
This position would support numerous natural resource projects throughout the western United states, including California, the Great Basin region, and the southwest.
There may be the potential for occasional field work through the western United States.
Primary duties will be threefold: 1) eagle and listed species impact assessments and permitting, 2) statistics and modeling, 3) raptor studies. The position will lead complex permitting and compliance projects focused on Golden and Bald Eagles, federally listed species covered under the Endangered Species Act and state-sensitive species.
Responsibilities will require a working knowledge of leading impact assessments and developing permitting strategies, preparing permit applications and background technical materials, maintaining permit compliance, and performing associated task/client management duties. The position will require a strong background in ecological statistics and modeling including proficiency with statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS) and modeling approaches such as general linear and Bayesian models. Responsibilities will also include directing raptor studies such as nest monitoring, avian use surveys, post-construction mortality monitoring, and protocol surveys for such species as Swainson's Hawk, Golden and Bald Eagles, and Burrowing Owls. Other focuses may include supporting development of Resource Conservation Plans, Eagle Conservation Plans, Habitat Conservation Plans, and Bird Bat Conservation Strategies. Candidate will coordinate with clients and resource agency staff, lead complex permitting projects involving eagles and other listed species and participate in public review processes.
Projects and clients can include renewable energy, transportation, and energy transmission sectors, with an emphasis on clients in the public sector such as federal and municipal entities.

- Ability to work full time, from 9 AM to 5 PM, PST (Pacific Standard Time).- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.- Familiarity with Excel or Google Sheets, including basic formulas.- Good general communication skills. - Detail-oriented with the ability to understand and follow instructions.- Ability to meet deadlines.- Responsible, reliable, and communicative.- Must successfully pass a client exam and interview with the hiring team as part of the selection process. - A personal laptop/desktop to access RWS systems.
