Update and manage a CMM Operator Evaluation Template to measure technical proficiency, productivity, and quality of output against defined standards. Conduct skill gap assessments and implement targeted development plans for individuals and teams. Lead the creation and deployment of the Ascentec Engineering CMM Training Manual, stored within company systems, to serve as the standard for all sites. Standardize CMM programming methods, inspection workflows, and reporting formats across facilities. Implement inspection KPIs (e.g., first-pass yield, programming cycle time, inspection backlog, repeatability/reproducibility metrics) and drive performance improvement. Ensure calibration schedules, probe qualification, and maintenance plans are adhered to for all metrology equipment. Evaluate and recommend emerging inspection technologies, automation, and software enhancements to improve accuracy, throughput, and efficiency. Benchmark Ascentec's metrology capabilities against industry leaders and develop plans to close gaps. Operates dedicated metrology equipment. Proofs CMM programs out while making any necessary changes and runs preexisting programs Performs other duties as assigned. Responsibilities * Inspect fabricated parts by visually and physically examining metal components at various stages of production, such as raw materials, cut pieces, welded joints, and finished products, to check for dimensional accuracy, surface defects, and compliance with design specifications. * Utilize measuring tools such as tape measures, levels, calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring instruments to ensure tolerances are met. * Read blueprints and specifications to thoroughly understand engineering drawings and technical specifications and verify that each fabricated part adheres to the intended design. * Identify potential quality issues such as misalignment, warping, scratches, dents, improper welding, and other imperfections during inspection. * Document inspection findings on quality control forms, noting any non-conforming parts and documenting corrective actions taken. * Communicate with production teams by reporting identified issues to production personnel and providing feedback to improve manufacturing processes and prevent future quality problems. * Implement corrective actions by working with operators to address quality issues by adjusting machining parameters, re-working defective parts, or implementing process improvements. * Maintain quality standards by ensuring adherence to established quality control procedures and industry standards, including safety regulations. Essential Skills * Strong understanding of metal fabrication processes, including cutting, welding, and bending. * Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings. * Attention to detail with the ability to check large quantities of documents to ensure they meet code specifications. * Expertise in using both standard and precision measuring tools, such as tape measures, levels, calipers, micrometers, and gauges. * Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. * Familiarity with quality control methodologies and documentation practices. * Proficiency in working with computers, including Word, Excel, Adobe, and Outlook. * Availability to work overtime as required, including some weekend work. Additional Skills & Qualifications * Interest in becoming a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI). * Ability to train and mentor others. Work Environment The role involves splitting time between the office and the shop floor, looking at parts, reviewing documentation specific to each build, and interacting with machine operators, welders, and inspectors. Flexible start and finish times for scheduling are offered, and the company supports obtaining a CWI certification if not already held. Upon conversion, 100% of medical benefits are paid for the employee and all family members, and the 401k employer contribution is based on profitability, not dropping below 15% in the past five years.
