Job Summary
Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Quality Innovation Engineering Intern to support the development and implementation of quality strategies and support quality assessments of the design, build, and operation of near-term nuclear and non-nuclear hardware demonstration projects. The Quality Innovation Engineering Intern will work in close partnership with mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls (I&C), testing, manufacturing, operations, and licensing engineering staff to identify safety-related items and activities, applicable quality assurance requirements, support the development of quality strategies, and support assessments of activities in progress and after completion to ensure effective quality program implementation.
In addition, the Quality Innovation Engineering Intern will work with technology partners to collect operating experience from the Kairos Power technology development program and identify potential conditions adverse to quality, associated causes and corrective actions. This role will contribute to the technology development programs for the demonstration and commercialization of Kairos Power reactors.
Responsibilities
Develop and document quality strategies rooted in engineering best practices to satisfy applicable quality requirements for safety-related systems and projects.

Qualifications

Essential Functions:
Utilizing appropriate laboratory procedures, skin tissues are stained with special dyes and mounted on slides for the Mohs Surgeon.

Responsible for Quality Control, proficiency and competency testing and regulatory compliance.
Maintains the department inspection ready at all times, in accordance with CLIA-88 regulations, (CFR 493.1451, CFR 493.1487 -1491)

Perform facility manager duties for assigned facilities in accordance with USAF and Kirtland Facility Manager instructions and technical directives in accordance with PWS Section 1.3.4.5.
Performs laboratory tests according to prescribed standards.
Set up and adjust laboratory apparatuses to include experiment tables at the request of scientists and engineers. Perform inspections and resolve discrepancies in locally developed laboratory operations and AF safety checklists.
Perform laboratory maintenance\/materiel management support tasks per AFRLI 21\-101 and AFRLI 23\-141. Operate and maintain basic laboratory machinery (e.g., laser chillers, clean room systems, vacuum pumps, generators, vacuum chambers, ovens, air compressors, etc.) in accordance with all technical and user manuals and other technical directives.
Assist with field testing operations, test asset movement\/positioning, and coordinate transportation requirements to\/from the test ranges (on and off Kirtland AFB NM). Operate select government motor vehicles\/forklifts as necessary to meet mission requirements. Perform required inspections, cleaning and basic servicing, and arrange for maintenance actions on Air Force owned\/leased vehicles and equipment items [trailers\/Other Government Motor Vehicle Conveyances (OGMVCs); total 56] local policy (as per the Air Force) and as directed by the PRS VCO in accordance with PWS Paragraph 1.3.4.4.
Manage laboratory equipment, stock, and components (to include equipment\/IT custodian). Manage hazardous communication and waste programs per OSHA and AF policies, including the Kirtland AFB Hazardous Waste Management Plan.
Sets up and adjusts laboratory apparatuses and equipment.
Service beyond established hours may be required when the mission dictates to include traveling to support essential operations\/functions. Laboratory technicians may be required to perform shift work per the customer's mission needs.
Records test results on standard forms, writes test reports describing procedures used, prepares graphs and charts, and cleans and sterilizes laboratory apparatuses.
Requirements
Employees shall be able to read, write, speak and comprehend English, have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in email or verbally.
Must have completed USAF Facility management training, have knowledge in USAF facility management processes, and be eligible for appointment as USAF Facility Manager.
Must be able to obtain and retain a secret security clearance.
Must have current state driver's licenses to operate materiel handling equipment and up to a medium duty non\-Commercial Driver's License required truck.
At least two years of experience with any of the disciplines that may be required of the position including but not limited to:

The Civil QA/QC Inspector will oversee the quality assurance and quality control aspects of civil construction work including earthworks, concrete, asphalt, utilities, drainage, and structural components. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all construction activities comply with applicable codes, standards, project specifications, and quality plans. The Ideal candidate must be willing to travel to support project needs.
Essential Functions of the Position
* Conduct QA/QC inspections for all civil construction activities, including but not limited
to earthwork, foundation, concrete placement, utilities, roadways, and structural
components.
* Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
* Prepare and maintain daily inspection reports, test results, non-conformance reports
(NCRs), and corrective action documentation.
* Monitor construction work to ensure compliance with approved inspection and test plans
(ITPs).
* Coordinate with contractors, site engineers, consultants, and quality managers to address
any quality-related issues.
* Verify materials and workmanship meet the project's approved submittals and standards.
* Attend quality and coordination meetings as needed.
* Ensure that all inspection and testing records are properly documented and archived.
* Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring quality issues and suggesting
practical solutions.
Minimum Requirements
* High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Civil
Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
* Minimum of [3-5] years of experience in civil construction QA/QC, preferably in
infrastructure or large-scale projects.
* In-depth knowledge of industry standards and codes (ASTM, ACI, AASHTO, etc.).
* Experience reviewing and implementing Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and Quality
Control Plans (QCPs).
* Familiarity with construction materials and laboratory/field testing procedures.
* Strong organizational and communication skills.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and QA/QC reporting tools.
* Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to project sites.
Preferred Certifications (Not Required, but a Plus):
* ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I
* NICET Certification in Civil/Construction Inspection
* OSHA 10 or 30 Certification
* ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems knowledge
* QMS/QA-related training or certifications
Physical Requirements
* Must be willing to work flexible schedules and overtime as needed by the department needs.
* Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 40 lbs.
* Drive a company vehicle in a safe manner
* Walk, stoop, bend, and climb up and down stairs and ladders

Perform quality inspection of product. Perform process audits.
Develop AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR).
Creation of Non-Conforming Material Reports (NCMR). Perform Receiving Inspection including XRF testing.
Will use the following programs: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MANFACT, PDF Converter (NitroPro), scanning software, image editor, Access database, IHS, NorthClark, OneNote.
Will use the following tools and equipment: Ring light, microscope, camera, scanner, micrometer, caliper, ruler, scale, X-Ray, XRF, and more.
Will read and interpret assembly drawings, mechanical drawings, component specifications, production work instructions, inspection instructions, and test procedures.
