Job Purpose
This role supports the implementation and execution of key food safety microbiological and analytical testing by performing routine quality control activities, and executing testing using approved microbiological and analytical methods to support food safety and quality. The position works on site in the laboratory and on the production floor to perform sampling for routine environmental and product testing.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Support testing completion through media preparation, quality control activities, sample collection, and execution of microbial testing on daily basis.
Support and execute sanitation verification testing, shelf-life studies and other microbiological testing to verify critical limits for critical processes.
Partner with internal business partners to update/maintain and improve laboratory standards and procedures.
Maintain excellent records of laboratory equipment and testing performed.
Perform testing, evaluate and approve microbiological test results for the Kraft Heinz network.
Participate in proficiency testing program and internal laboratory audit process for internal factory laboratories.
Support sanitation verification, validation of pre-requisite programs and HACCP preventive controls (cooking, formulation, etc.) through routine product and environmental sampling and testing.
Remain current in scientific and regulatory principles of food safety to ensure most relevant information and emerging issues are identified and incorporated into Kraft Heinz food safety programs.
Perform administrative tasks such as managing inventory, ordering of lab supplies, and data entry.
Perform cross-functional communication of results with internally generated data.

Expected Experience & Required Skills
Past experience performing relevant food safety or analytical science work in a laboratory required (1-3 years preferred).
Knowledge and experience of GLPs (Good Laboratory Practices) required, including routine handling of BSL2 organisms.
Knowledge and experience of GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) preferred.
Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Management Systems) and data management preferred.
Experience performing microbiology laboratory techniques and analytical chemistry procedures, including rapid test methods.
Awareness of quality management systems/processes (ISO, Six Sigma etc.), especially ISO 17025 requirements.
Work experience in team-oriented functions as well as individual contribution.
Must be able to work assigned shift with prompt and regular attendance, weekends or overtime as needed.

THE ROLE This position is based at assigned customer location and will move between Dubuque and Davenport to perform sampling inspections of products to ensure the highest quality products' availability to our customers. The incumbent will work with our operations teams to execute sorting / containment activities upon the identification of any defect. And help in the necessary quarantine, return, and replacement of Gates product to keep customer operations working effectively and on-time. The ability to read technical drawings and specifications is required of the incumbent to be able to inspect special characteristics that can affect the proper fit, form, and function of Gates finished goods. Mortgage lenders require periodic updates on their properties and to do this they send out independent contractors. The purpose of the property inspection is:

We contract with inspectors at a county level. This means that you would be responsible to complete all inspections in your county. In some cases, you will split the county with another inspector if there is enough volume for two inspectors.

Most common type of inspection should only take 5-6 minutes.
Complete the inspection within 4 days after it is assigned.
Report general property conditions and make a determination of occupancy based on industry standards.

Requires being able to spend extended periods of time driving while making numerous stops during the day in the assigned territory.

What is an Occupancy Verification?
Mortgage lenders require periodic updates on their properties and to do this they send out independent contractors. The purpose of the property inspection is:
To verify property occupancy.
To report on the general condition of the property using a mobile application.
Most inspections are exterior only. About 10% require interior photos after the property has gone vacant.
We contract with inspectors at a county level. This means that you would be responsible to complete all inspections in your county. In some cases, you will split the county with another inspector if there is enough volume for two inspectors.
Responsibilities
Most common type of inspection should only take 5-6 minutes.
Complete the inspection within 4 days after it is assigned.
Report general property conditions and make a determination of occupancy based on industry standards.
Take 9+ photos of the property with brief comments.
Complete a short form in an app.
Requires being able to spend extended periods of time driving while making numerous stops during the day in the assigned territory.
Requirements (to be considered you must have the following):
Computer with an internet connection
Reliable vehicle (good gas mileage is a plus as you will be paying for your own gas)
Smartphone (Android or iPhone)
Printer
Pass a standard background check using a valid driver's license
Pay and Hours
This is a 1099 position. Each inspection has a flat rate. Rates vary based on county and volume. Although you are paid per inspection, you will earn the equivalent of $30-$40 per hour.
Depending on a county and if it is urban or rural you will complete anywhere from 20-500 inspections per month working 2-30 hours per week. Lower volume counties have higher rates and higher volume counties have lower rates. There is no set amount of inspections per month, but the work is consistent month-to-month.
Earn more as you become established, have greater availability to inspect or are willing to cover a larger territory.
No additional mileage reimbursement above the flat fee per inspection.
