Replies within 24 hours About the Role Van's Home Center is hiring a Part-Time Farm Hand whose work will directly support the daily operations and mission of "My Little Barn", a nonprofit farm by Rea's Heart dedicated to creating a place of healing, connection, and hope for children and families. While Van's is the employer of record, this position is performed entirely on-site at the farm in Huntertown and is integral to ensuring the animals and facilities are cared for with excellence.
This role requires consistent availability to complete morning and evening feedings. In addition to animal care, the position involves hands-on maintenance, repairs, and small construction projects around the farm.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Animal Care (Twice Per Day) Animals: Mini Donkeys, Mini Cows, Nigerian Dwarf Goats, Rabbits, and Chickens
Feed, water, and care for animals every morning and evening. Prefer 6-7 day availability, but some flexibility exist.
Conduct wellness checks and promptly report any concerns
Muck stalls, clean pens, refresh bedding, and maintain clean barn environments
Assist with safe and compassionate animal handling and basic grooming
Ensure all animals are secure and their living areas meet safety standards
Farm Maintenance & Handyman Duties
Perform routine repairs on barns, shelters, fences, stalls, and equipment
Install or repair fencing and gates
Assist with small building projects and property improvements
Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition
Proactively identify and communicate maintenance and safety needs

Represent both Van's Home Center and Rea's Heart professionally

Must be available for both morning and evening feedings. Each feeding typically takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.
Successful completion of a background check is required

Annual Salary*: $19.00- $25.00/per hour based on experience

Responsibilities
Provide supervision and leadership to camp and all activities at the Ranch and Trail Rides
Must possess knowledge of Western riding instruction, horse care, and stable management. Experience in a summer camp equestrian program or camp equestrian training is preferred.
Certifications: Current Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) certification or willingness to attain certification prior to camp is required.
Plan, organize, and facilitate ranch staff training for safety, facilitation, and equine care.
Evaluate and provide riding instruction to campers. Facilitate Trail Rides on designated trails on camp.
Supervise and direct the camp horsemanship program by effectively managing the herd and maintaining all equestrian equipment. Perform daily checks for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
Report any health or behavior concerns of the horses to the Program Director.
Immediately report falls from a horse, bites from a horse, or horse stepping on people's feet, camper and staff, to the Program Director and log report.
Maintain health and behavior records for each horse. Makes recommendations for horse lease selection in the following year.
Assist with camp operations related to prep, evening programing, daily and weekly cleaning.
