The Department of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia houses several key research resources, including the Transgenic and Genome Editing Core, the Viral Vector Core, and a state-of-the-art microscopy facility. Job Summary
A position designed to learn through engagement in an advanced level of scientific technical and administrative work in support of research efforts in the Wang laboratory. Participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures, maintain lab equipment, and supervise and coordinate lab personnel and activities. Perform a variety of complex experiments and execute lab management duties. Maintains mouse colonies and inventories. Coordinates with all members of the lab and the PI to keep track of which mouse strains are currently in use or will be required for research projects. Coordinate and perform treatment and testing of mice.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities to include, but are not limited to:
Perform a variety of experimental studies including cell biology, molecular biology, pathology, pharmacology and behavioral experiments under guidance. Experiments may include but not be limited to animal behavioral testing, genotyping, ELISA, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, and collection of tissues. Taking images using various microscopes and imaging scanners. Maintain and update spreadsheets, documenting results.
Maintains mouse colonies and inventories. Coordinates with all members of the lab and the PI to keep track of which mouse strains are currently in use or will be required for research projects. Coordinate and perform treatment and testing of mice.
Manages continuous operation of the research laboratory, orders supplies and animals as necessary, keeps track of costs, expenses, and delivered goods/supplies, updates spreadsheets documenting lab supply and chemical inventories.
Coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants, and other research personnel engaged in research activities and/or related laboratory work. Assist postdocs, students and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures and other technological aspects of research activities.
Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, social sciences, natural sciences, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research or clinical setting.
OR
Associate degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, social sciences, natural sciences, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years of experience in a research or clinical area.

Established in 1829, the Medical College of Georgia Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, or BMB, is an academic home to interdisciplinary translational research for disease detection, prevention, and treatment. Our mission also includes the education and mentoring of future researchers, physicians and physician-scientists and service to the AU and greater scientific community. The research mission is focused on inventing better diagnostics and newer targeted therapies for the benign and malignant diseases of the bladder, brain, breast, eye, gastrointestinal tract, kidney, liver, and prostate. The research areas encompass biomarkers, chemoprevention, DNA damage and repair, drug resistance, the epigenome, immunotherapy, the microbiome, molecular signaling, natural products, protein modifications and targeted therapy. Job Summary
The Research Assistant's responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provide laboratory assistance directly to the Principal Investigator and the laboratory team, with some ability to work independently in carrying out multiple techniques, including -but not limited to- culture of established cancer and normal cell lines, primary tissue cultures, proteomics (western-blot, ELISA), DNA-RNA isolation/purification, PCR/RT-PCR, immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry for immune cells, cancer cells, cloning, working with biological specimens, providing assistance in mouse models.
Data Collection: Participate in research data collection, analysis, maintain institutional research protocols; willingness to learn bioinformatics.

Pharmacology and Toxicology was established as a department at the Medical College of Georgia in 1943. Originally developed to discover how remedies and poisons effected man, modern pharmacology lays the groundwork to discover and develop future generations of therapeutics. Pharmacology's scope has broadened to include computer-assisted drug design; genetic screens; protein engineering; and new drug-delivery vehicles like viruses and artificial cells. The department's history of accomplishments includes the discovery of the adrenergic receptor subtypes-alpha and beta which led to developing several drugs used to treat cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular and neuroscience studies are the focuses of the department's research programs. Raymond P. Ahlquist, working in this Department, first defined and ß adrenergic receptors in 1948. This discovery eventually led to the development of ß blocker drugs for hypertension and heart disease.
Job Summary
Position responsibilities include the daily performance of complex chemical, biological, and animal/tissue preparation and testing in the research laboratory. The position will assist PI, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows with procedures and data collection of research as well as general maintenance of laboratory resources and equipment.

Perform research experiments in a laboratory setting conducting preclinical in vitro cell culture studies. Perform animal handling, dosing, biochemical, molecular, and microscopic imaging experimental techniques in support of current projects.

Community Partners

Organizing
Manages community engagement and outreach programs that interphase directly with community members, cancer survivors, caregivers, cancer patients, and local organizations across the state, nation, and internationally. Coalition building, strategic planning, program development, grant writing and program evaluation assistance, deliver up-to-date information on innovative and effective cancer prevention and treatment methods.
Research
Examine the influence of personal, neighborhood level, socioeconomic factors (social determinants of health), and availability of healthcare resources in relation to racial differences in survival and treatment of various cancers and other population health issues. Work to address health disparities and establish health fairness in the local, regional, state, national, and international communities. Research, study and innovatively utilize tools for social determinants of health, human development index, social vulnerability index, and human rights index.

* Develop a successful research program, with the expectation of obtaining one NIH R01 or RF1 grant, or one other major grant as Principal Investigator, with direct cost revenues of $200,000 - $300,000 per year up to 4-5 years; from Year 4 and forward, the expectation is to be PI or MPI on at least one RO1 or equivalent and have laboratory grants exceed $400K/year in direct costs.

* Mentor graduate students.

Job Summary
This position provides administrative and technical oversight in a cardiorenal research laboratory in the Department of Physiology. Responsibilities include the following: Ensure research protocols are followed and met; safety guidelines are followed in accordance with institution and government regulations; management of laboratory resources; provide teaching and technical oversight to trainees and research staff; process data, present findings and assist Principle Investigator (PI: Dr. Alison Kriegel) with current and future research applications and programs of study; and coordinate administrative and technical arrangements of animal models and maintain records related to use.
Research in the Kriegel laboratory is focused on 1) understanding molecular changes associated with hypertension and/or acute/chronic kidney pathology, and 2) understanding how chronic kidney disease leads to cardiovascular disease and dysfunction in adults and children. The laboratory applies cutting edge molecular technologies to understand complex patho/physiological processes. Projects include work in cell and animal models, as well as translational studies involving human subjects.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities to include but not limited to:
Lab Management
Coordinate research activities in the lab and instruct research staff and students and advise regarding research techniques.
Animal Management
Coordinate administrative and technical arrangements of animal models and maintain records related to use. Perform animal colony maintenance and surgical procedures such as injections, gavage and euthanasia. Assist PI with animal protocols preparation and submission.
Experiments
Perform complex data analysis related to producing research results and preparing findings for future development and develop new studies in coordination with the PI. Plan research protocols and control the proper execution of the research plans by other laboratory staff. Analyze data and prepare publication-ready figures.
Fiscal Management
Participate in the tracking and monitoring of budgetary resources to ensure effective lab operations. Interface with vendors and administration regarding order tracking and invoices/payments.
Safety and Compliance
Use independent judgement in the daily operation of the lab to ensure safe and efficient use of resources. Monitor use of resources to ensure compliance with federal guidelines and institutional protocols.
Grant Development
Assist PI with data preparation for grant applications and renewals. Participate actively in the composition, editing and publication of research findings.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research.

Job Summary
The Research Associate will perform cell culture, real-time PCR, flow cytometry, western blotting, histological studies, gene silencing and overexpression in the laboratory. The position requires the ability to maintain mouse colonies by crossing tissue specific mice with various floxed mice to generate tissue-specific knockout animals. Successful candidate will perform genotyping assays to distinguish each of the mouse lines, set up breeder cages to maintain lines or generate unique combinations of lines for experiments, perform tamoxifen injections to induce the loss or gain of a gene's function in the mouse.
