The OSINT Analyst is an expert in their domain, whether it be a region or topic. They are responsible for using GA's tools, technology and data to build interesting and compelling intelligence related to activities, threats and trends. They will be required to provide actionable intelligence products to showcase the operational utility of our technology to key stakeholders within the organization, and to develop and maintain relationships with external partners and stakeholders. This position will be a liaison between users/customers and developers to provide input to the planning prioritization. The analyst will also learn the customer workflows and create requirements to meet and improve them.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITTIES:
* Conduct research and analysis of information from multiple sources, including open and scholarly resources
* Identify, track, and assess threats to the organization or its assets
* Develop and maintain knowledge of relevant geopolitical, economic, and social developments to identify emerging issues and trends
* Collaborate with other analysts and subject matter experts to develop and refine analytical methodologies and tools
* Produce intelligence products, including vignettes, briefings, reports, and assessments, for internal and external audiences
* Maintain an up-to-date understanding of new technologies, methodologies, and best practices in the field of intelligence analysis
* Support the development and implementation of GA workflows and procedures related to intelligence analysis
* Use GA (and other) data analysis tools and techniques to mine data and identify patterns and trends
* Work with the GA portfolio leadership to share vision for the product / landscape / growth plans
* Possesses requires excellent judgment and critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to responsibly gather, maintain, and report on classified information, often in subjects such as counterterrorism, insurgency, cyber, and other threats to National Security.

The JMU Optimization & Algorithmic Theory (OAT) Lab is looking for up to four (4) student research assistants (RAs) to join our team! The OAT lab performs research on the theoretical analysis and computational implementation of optimization algorithms. We accept applications from all majors, and we value the breadth of expertise that comes with cross-disciplinary teams. Specific work hours (timing and quantity) are flexible, but there is a maximum of 20 hours per week for the Spring semester. If the research assistant makes satisfactory progress on their project, there is an option to extend this position to full-time in the summer upon mutual agreement of the RA and the PI. This position is funded by the National Science Foundation (Award #DMS-2532423).
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Conduct theoretical and/or computational research on optimization, as directed by the Principal Investigator (PI).
2. Maintain weekly or bi-weekly meetings with the PI.
3. Contact the PI if unsolvable issues arise in the research project.
4. Independently learn the mathematical and/or programming concepts required for the assigned research project.
5. Program algorithms, tests, and problems related to optimization in relation to assigned research project(s) AND/OR work towards deriving new theoretical results related to the assigned research project(s).
6. Write an end-of-semester report that details research results and/or code documentation.
7. Prepare materials (slides, posters, etc.) for academic conferences or public outreach.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED: Most of our projects require some knowledge of linear algebra, calculus (sequences/series), programming, proofs, and optimization. However, there is no expectation to know all of these topics at the beginning -- just an eagerness to learn.
PREFERRED: very reliable, willing to learn, programming expertise, basic understanding of linear algebra, good grades in math, and experience/interest in (theory and/or implementation of) optimization algorithms. Prior experience typesetting in LaTeX is helpful, but not required.
Additional Posting Information:
There are up to four positions available. If satisfactory progress is made, this position could be extended to full-time (up to 40 hours per week) in the Summer upon mutual agreement of the Research Assistant and the PI. A limited amount of funds are available to send RA(s) to present research at conferences.

Responsibilities:
* 60%: Participates in planning, design, execution, and management of research projects, studies and activities in a research laboratory investigating cancer; participates in the execution of ongoing research projects; participates in developing and implementing goals and objectives of studies; designs and executes complex laboratory experiments; performs advanced molecular and cellular techniques; collects, analyzes and interprets research data; assists with development and implementation of new and/or revised research methodologies and techniques; tests experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods and make recommendations for utilization; assists in establishment of controls, criteria and research standards; performs critical analysis of literature relevant to research; coordinates laboratory activities and work assignments graduate and undergraduate students, and laboratory research staff.

Research in the lab focuses on hippocampal microcircuits underlying social memory, with an emphasis on the roles of adult-born neurons, perineuronal nets, and microglia. The Cope Lab employs behavioral, histological, pharmacologic, environmental, transgenic, viral, chemogenetic, and in vivo electrophysiological methods to uncover how these cells and their cellular or extracellular structures interact and collectively shape hippocampal social memory function.
Postdoctoral Research Associates will manage their own projects, interact with other lab members and collaborators, present their work at lab meetings and conferences, and contribute to grant applications and manuscripts for publication. Candidates will be expected to learn new techniques as a part of their training requirement. This position also includes opportunities to help mentor and teach students.
