Job Title: Research Associate Reports to: Director of Education and Senior Research Fellow FLSA Status: Exempt Research Associate is a full-time position at the American Institute for Economic Research (AIER). Research Associates collaborate with AIER's Research Team on new and ongoing research projects, in producing AIER's content, and in delivering educational programs. The Research Associate should have excellent research skills, both quantitative and qualitative, and have demonstrated abilities in writing and oral presentation. The Research Associate will work on literature reviews, data collection and analysis, drafting of articles and reports, and the many miscellaneous questions that arise during AIER's research. The Research Associate should have experience working on research projects and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team to support AIER's research mission. The Research Associate will work on short- and long-term projects. These projects include writing for the AIER website, articles for academic publication, working on research reports, presentations at conferences, and other projects of the research team. This Research Associate position also involves the operation of the Student Internship and Graduate-Fellowship programs at AIER. This includes supervising undergraduate research projects, managing the delivery of the academic curriculum, lecturing within that curriculum, and facilitating reading discussions and workshops. A core duty of this position is providing direct onsite mentoring to the participants in these programs. In addition to the above duties, the Research Associate will conduct their own independent research and writing projects that align with AIER's mission under the supervision of the Faculty. Each spring the Dean of the Faculty designates up to seven academically outstanding members of the junior class as Senior Fellows. Students in the junior year may become candidates by submitting a proposal for a senior year of independent study. The proposal usually grows out of earlier independent study courses and is framed in consultation with two faculty advisers of the student's choice. Senior Fellows are exempt from taking a normal course load in the conventional curriculum, and they need not complete concentration requirements; they may take such courses as are appropriate to their fellowship projects and their educational goals. A written thesis is required at the close of the fellowship year, along with a public lecture to the College community. Evaluation is made by the advisors and an examination committee. Although the proposal for a Senior Fellowship has no set length or format, a typical proposal is approximately 7 to 10 pages long. The proposal should include the following information: A. Reasons why you wish to do a Senior Fellowship. How would a senior fellowship year fit into your liberal arts education and/or career goals? Why would it be a more appropriate alternative to continued formal coursework and completion of your degree and concentration requirements? Is it a natural outgrowth of an experience or interest you have developed at Hamilton, of an experience abroad or elsewhere? B. Outline of the projected study. This should include (1) appropriate and detailed background information indicating your understanding of the problem or topic you wish you investigate; (2) the means by which you will accomplish your investigation; and (3) the significance of the undertaking. The Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities at Bard College announces one post-doctoral fellowship for the 2026-2027 academic year.
