PRIMARY FUNCTION The Respiratory Therapist will provide respiratory services to VITAS patients so that the quality of life might be enhanced. Assesses the respiratory status of patients admitted into the VITAS program as directed by the interdisciplinary team. Evaluates the effectiveness of the present respiratory regimen. Provides input into the interdisciplinary plan of care to promote optimal respiratory function related to the patient's potential. Instructs patients and caregivers in appropriate respiratory care procedures and techniques. Participates as needed in the care process and as directed by the interdisciplinary team. Completes appropriate documentation in a timely manner and provides educational programs for VITAS staff members.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Qualified candidates must have a minimum two years experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
* RRT: Acute care and home care field experience required.
* CRTT: minimum two years experience with at least one year acute care and one year home care field experience.
* Experience with respiratory-related home care equipment, compressed medical gases, concentrators and liquid oxygen.
EDUCATION
* Graduate of an approved program to train Respiratory Therapists. N.B.R.C. (National Board for Respiratory Care) credentialed (CRTT minimum; RRT preferred).
* Current State License for Respiratory Care Practitioner, if applicable.

Working Conditions & Functions
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Must be able to stretch, bend, stoop and crouch and perform moderate to heavy physical labor while moving equipment, materials, and supplies. The employee is occasionally required to climb stairs and maneuver heavy equipment through tight spaces to access a patient's residence. This position requires the physical and mental ability to provide equipment assessments and maintenance. Must be able to lift or transfer patients weighing up to 160 pounds without assistance (or more with assistance) and perform one-man CPR.
This position requires city and rural travel. Drive a personal vehicle, delivery van or truck safely, sometimes through hazardous weather conditions. The employee must be able to identify safety hazards and take the necessary precautions. Work with a minimum of supervision and demonstrate the ability to problem solve.

A Level II Trauma program in the Sanford area is seeking a
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
to join a high-acuity respiratory care team. The RRT will support patients across critical care, ED, cardiopulmonary services, and procedural areas. This role offers significant clinical growth, including exposure to advanced airway management, ventilator care, and respiratory diagnostics.
Key Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive respiratory assessments including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure.
Conduct diagnostic testing to determine therapeutic needs and monitor patient response.
Administer respiratory therapies: oxygen, aerosolized medications, chest physiotherapy, airway clearance techniques.

Managerial functions: Assists with human resource activities, works with Director to recommend capital equipment replacement, coordinates the staff schedule, time and attendance, and call coverage, recommends process improvement plans. Clinical functions: Provides all therapeutic respiratory care procedures utilizing a multidisciplinary approach in an acute or critical care environment. Performs assessment and reassessment of the patient with the development of a care plan.

Directly supervise the Respiratory Care staff and techs. Evaluates quality of Respiratory Care practice, instructing and assisting staff as may be necessary. Analyzes and resolves problems requiring supervisory authority.
Assists with interviews and coordinates the orientation of new team members. Conducts employee performance appraisals, disciplinary process and annual competency evaluations.
Develops and approves Respiratory Care staff schedules. Adjust staffing according to workload as necessary assuring that respiratory department is staffed appropriately. Reviews department productivity and adjusts staffing level. Enters all variances into computerized scheduling system.
Assists with the formation of the annual Respiratory Care Education plan. Coordinates and supervises Training/ Development of Respiratory Care staff.
Performs, monitors, and is competent to teach others all aspects of Respiratory Care based on established standards. Collaborate with other health team members to formulate agreeable healthcare goals with the patient and/or family. Provides education for the patient and/or family. Demonstrates competency in all procedures within the scope of practice, as appropriate for all ages of patients served.
Reviews department policies and procedures on an ongoing basis. Submits new policy/ procedure implementations or revisions for approval. Refine department procedures to improve efficiency. Communicates and educates staff on an ongoing basis via monthly staff meetings and huddles.
Assists with the recommendation and evaluation of the capital and operational budget requests. Supervises the ordering, storing, and maintenance of routine Respiratory Care supplies and medications.
Oversees Quality Assessment data collection and reports. Recommends actions to resolve or improve variance data.
Leader Rounding with staff.
Bedside Shift Report rounds in the critical care unit.
Updating and Maintaining Patient White Board
Performs similar or related duties as assigned.
