The RT Vent Field Clinician is a Respiratory Therapist providing respiratory patient care to Vent patients for optimal outcomes. Provides respiratory care to patients in alternate sites in accordance with AdaptHealth's policies and procedures. Respiratory care will be preventative, rehabilitative, and palliative in nature. The RT will utilize all the resources available within the agency and community to accomplish care objectives. This position will provide education and care to the patient and communicate with team, physicians and referral sources and other patient agencies ensuring prompt attention to patient care issues.
Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:
* Utilizes various sources of information to attain greater competence about his or her position, including attending educational events (including attending optional in-services) and asking questions.
* Utilizes acquired knowledge to increase his or her competencies.
* Consistently demonstrates ability to adequately complete all documentation and charting procedures in compliance with company policy and procedures.
* Maintains complete and accurate patient files by updating all documents per company policy and procedures.
* Reviews Plan of Treatments and Care Plans to assure they are accurate and up to date.
* Documents procedures including how the patient tolerated a procedure, side effects and other pertinent information.
* Assists with authorization for Ventilator referrals for patients.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Respiratory Care Practitioner is the professional responsible for the provision of respiratory care, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, advanced airway management and related diagnostics. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Knows admitting diagnosis and pulmonary pathophysiology for assigned patients, performs patient assessments and provide appropriate therapy.
* Evaluates and documents data obtained from respiratory monitoring devices on assigned patients.
* Evaluates patient's response to all respiratory care provided and appropriately documents required information as outlined in department policies and procedures.
* Determines appropriateness and provides recommendations for respiratory care services, taking into consideration the needs of different age groups, cognitive abilities, and development status.
* Initiates new routine orders within time specified in department policies and procedures.
* Measures and adjusts airway cuff pressures.
* Recommends changes in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to physicians, nursing, and/or co-workers.
* Taking into consideration patient age and development status, modifies those treatments/procedure techniques which do not require a change in physician's orders to optimize the delivery of care, and reports modifications to appropriate health care team members.
* Utilizes the appropriate chain-of-command when consulting on patients not responding to standard therapeutic procedures.
* Performs respiratory diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
* Provides ventilatory support during patient intra hospital transfers.
* Performs procedures for disinfecting respiratory equipment and adheres to infection control policies and procedures.

* Performs oral, nasal, and tracheal suctioning to ensure airway patency.
* Collaborates with physicians and nurses in regard to the appropriate frequency of suctioning for assigned patients.
* Provides reasonable solutions upon the identification of problems.
* Participates in Patient/Family Teaching: Independently assesses patient learning needs and seeks assistance in identifying/meeting learning needs of patients and families specific to management of chronic pulmonary disorders. Patient family education is to include disease management, proper use of medication and administration devices, oxygen therapy and related equipment.
* Maintains a safe and clean environment that complies with regulatory standards including Patient Safety Goals.
* Participates in the implementation of the department specific Quality and Performance Improvement Plan, completes monitoring forms and reports findings to the Respiratory Manager.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A. Education
* Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) approved school and passage of the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) certification examination
B. Qualifications/Experience
* Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in an acute care setting with regard to regulatory guidelines and standard of practice. In lieu of this experience, consideration will be made for an applicant with strong education and associated experiential background.
* Current California Respiratory Care Practitioner license

Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The Respiratory Care Practitioner, under direct supervision, conducts patient assessments, assists with the development of the plan of care, provides and evaluates general, basic patient care with assistance to an assigned group of patients according to patient specific age and/or developmental needs. Collaborates with other health care team members in the delivery of care. Will follow applicable policies and procedures in handling supplies, pharmaceuticals, and equipment.
The Respiratory Care Team is accountable for delivering high-quality, evidence-based respiratory therapy to pediatric patients across inpatient and outpatient settings, including critical care, pulmonary diagnostics, and sleep lab services. Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: 1+ year experience as a CHLA RCP I, or 2+ years critical care experience as an RCP. Experience with pediatric patients. Broad knowledge of respiratory care principles and equipment; CHLA patient care policies and procedures. Ability to assess effectiveness of patient care; maintain a calm demeanor and assist in crises and emergencies; prioritize tasks for complex patient care; communicate tactfully, professionally and effectively, verbally and in writing.
Preferred experience: Bilingual skills (Spanish preferred), prior experience in a children's hospital setting, interest in professional development and quality improvement initiatives.
Education/Licensure/Certifications: Graduate of an A.M.A, and CoARC accredited School of Respiratory Care. RCP license from the state of California. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the NBRC. Current American Heart Association BLS, PALS, ACLS required. Additional competencies may be required by the work location.

* Assesses patients' overall cardiopulmonary status by inspection, palpitation, percussion, auscultation, and patient or guardian/significant other interview; documents patients' vital signs.
* Performs the full range of ventilatory care services as prescribed by a physician, including selecting, setting up, and operating a variety of devices such as medication delivery units, humidifiers, positive-pressure breathing machines, and continuous mechanical ventilators in critical care units.
* Administers complex therapies, such as Inhaled Nitric Oxide (INO therapy), high frequency ventilation, and heliox therapy, and performs Non-Bronchoscopic mini-BAL procedures to provide a non-bronchoscopic method of attaining a sample of bonchoalveolar fluid in the mechanically ventilated patient for the diagnosis of ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP).
* Performs arterial punctures, intubations and other procedures as ordered by a physician and designated according to the facility's policies and procedures.
* Assists the physician with the insertion of tracheostomy tubes, and may perform reinsertion of tubes, as needed.
* Administers chest physiotherapy to patients using postural drainage and/or chest wall percussion and vibration techniques by hand or by mechanical devices.
