Summary:
A Registered Respiratory Therapist provides advanced respiratory care to patients with complex pulmonary disorders and critical illnesses. They independently assess, treat, and manage patients with a wide range of respiratory conditions, including those in intensive care units and emergency situations. RRTs work collaboratively with physicians and healthcare teams to deliver life-saving therapies and patient-centered care.
Essential Work Functions:
Collaborate with physicians to develop patient treatment plans
Examine and interview patients with breathing and/or cardiopulmonary disorders
Perform diagnostic tests, such as measuring lung capacity or collecting blood/sputum samples
Treat patients through various methods including chest physiotherapy and aerosol medications
Set up and monitor equipment to ensure the patient is receiving the correct amount of oxygen at the correct rate
Observe and record patient status and progress
Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure appropriate patient care
Educate patients and/or family members on how to properly take medication and use equipment
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of RRT practice
Required Essential Skills:
Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
The ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language
Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
Physical Abilities - Must be able to remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), push, pull, and bend
Interpersonal Skills - Must be able to work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalism
Technical/Motor Skills - Must have the ability to grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment
Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally, as well as working without assistance from other personnel. Must be able to contend with irregular activity schedules occasionally and continuous concentration to detail

Requirements:
Requires current license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner from the state of Indiana.
Requires graduation from a CoARC (Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) and regionally accredited respiratory care program.
Requires that the N.B.R.C. (National Board for Respiratory Care) registry exam be passed within 6 months of hire date. The 6 month requirement for the RRT is void if hire date is one year past graduation date.

Must be able to effectively communicate with department staff, employees and community, and carryout essential functions. Must be able to handle sensitive issues, conflict with or among others, respectively direct and reinforce staff efforts; effectively plan and organize and prioritize work, think critically to both effectively plan and organize department operations consistent strategic and operating objectives and to effectively solve unique problems as they arise or identify when to consult supervisor. Must be able to deal with challenging work environment with time demands and occasional conflicting priorities. Maintain a positive and professional image and demonstrate self-directed learning to meet professional development and/or license requirements. Is responsible for maintaining all required licensure and certifications. At orientation and annually thereafter, must be able to meet core competencies for position and area of specialty, as appropriate.

Pay Package:
Competitive hourly pay ranging from $30 to $42, based on experience.
Required Skills:
Current and valid Indiana RRT license
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in respiratory therapy
Ability to work 12-hour shifts on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays
Strong clinical skills in respiratory care procedures
Knowledge of infection control protocols and patient safety standards
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP from the American Heart Association preferred
Preferred Education and Experience:
Associate's degree or higher in Respiratory Therapy or related field
Previous hospital-based respiratory therapy experience
Certification in advanced life support certifications
Other Requirements:
Must pass a criminal record check as mandated by state law
Willingness to work flexible hours and weekends
Ability to adapt to various clinical environments
Valid licensing and certification as specified
