Responsibilities: Under general supervision and medical direction performs respiratory care related procedures. Exercises considerable judgment in accordance with physician's treatment plan and within the scope of departmental policies and procedures. Scope of practice includes patient/family assessment and management, resource management, care facilitation, and discharge planning as required. Assesses resident's condition, administers prescribed therapy and aerosolized medications, observes and records resident's progress and response to therapy modalities including adverse reactions to drugs and therapy. Provides in-service training to residents, family members, and facility staff. Resident population is primarily adult and geriatric. Utilizes knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the resident's age to ensure that care provided meets the unique, physical and psychological needs of the resident. Involves appropriate parties (i.e. resident's family or facility staff) in the assessment, treatment, and continuing care of the resident as needed. Initiates, monitors and maintains life support systems for residents in the skilled nursing facility.
Performs airway care and maintenance.
Manages artificial ventilator status as directed by an approved protocol.
Maintains and troubleshoots mechanical ventilators.
Participates in cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures of bag ventilation and closed chest massage.Initiates, monitors and documents performance of various respiratory care modalities.Performs assessment of residents' cardiopulmonary status utilizing physical assessment and history taking skills, laboratory findings, radiological studies of the chest, pulmonary function testing and professional judgment to formulate a respiratory care plan upon the order of a physician.Performs various tasks prior to treating a resident as follows:

Observe and chart: pulse, respiration, breath sounds (number and quality), and resident's general appearance, including breathing exercises and teaching and training to residents.
Notify supervisor of all new starts and discontinued residents.Administers proper technical respiratory care procedures. Dispenses proper dosage of medication, acquires and adjusts devices to insure optimal results from therapy. This includes mask, mouthpiece, or Trach equipment for resident's comfort and ease of operation, regulates flow and pressure of equipment. Observes resident's respiratory rate and pattern, pulse, breath sounds, reaction to medication, any difficulty with therapy during and after treatment. Chart and communicate to the resident's nurse any pertinent information. Observe thorough and accurate charting technique.Inspects and tests equipment, disassembles, cleans, reassembles equipment as required. Maintains adequate supply of necessary equipment. Performs administrative duties and record keeping when required. Disposes of equipment properly.Assists in emergency cardio-pulmonary resuscitation as an integral part of the emergency team. Knowledge and skill includes device and interface selection, application, operational verification and modes of therapy. Assess effectiveness of therapy. Report any adverse reaction or side effects such as skin irritation.
• Demonstrate Knowledge and skill in the use of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation in primary assignment area (i.e. neonate, infant, pediatric and adult) patient populations. Knowledge and skill includes device and interface selection, application, operational verification, troubleshooting, and modes of therapy. Assess effectiveness of therapy three times per shift. Report any adverse reactions or side effects such as skin irritation.
• Comply with all Department, Infection Prevention, and Safety policies and procedures. Demonstrate knowledge of National Patient Safety Goals and relevant Standards from Joint Commission, Department of Health, CMS and other regulatory bodies.
• Determine priorities and organizes work and time to meet them. Demonstrate the ability to function in a diverse workforce. Interact tactfully, constructively and diplomatically with others.
• Perform emergency airway care procedures and maintain patient ventilation during emergent situations. As ordered and if certified, establish, maintain and obtain samples from arterial lines. What will I be doing?

Responsible for the assembly, sequential operation, and calibration of equipment and accessories to implement associated therapeutic regimens including, but not limited to, teaching inpatients and outpatients incentive spirometry as appropriate; instructs patients and family before discharge on pulmonary rehabilitation procedures (e.g., deep breathing, use of equipment at home, suctioning procedures).
Attends and participates in Medical Rounds and teaching conferences.
Documents patient outcomes and maintains other required documentation in patient chart and department records according to departmental policies and procedures.
Maintains open lines of communication with other disciplines to facilitate resolution of problems and patient care issues in a timely manner.
Acts as resource or consultant to physicians, nurses, patients and families and to other Respiratory Care practitioners and the public to provide appropriate, tactful support and education when requested and required; provides clinical supervision of care given by Technicians as well as supporting higher-credentialed personnel.
Performs infection control procedures (i.e. changing resuscitator bags, aerosol set-ups and recycling same as required); processes equipment on an as-needed basis.

Our clinics are located in Zanesville, Coshocton, and Somerset. to express your interest!Overview of the position: Delivers patients care and diagnostic testing according to professional practice standards, while providing support for Genesis HealthCare System divisions. Acts as a resource through making decisions utilizing critical thinking. Reviews existing clinical data, collects or recommends obtaining additional pertinent clinical data. Evaluates all data to determine the appropriateness of the prescribed respiratory care plan and participates in the development of the respiratory care plan. ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Reviews data in the patient record and recommends diagnostic procedures.
2. Collects and evaluates clinical information.
3. Performs procedures and reports results, determine appropriateness of and participate in developing and recommending modifications to respiratory care plans: spirometry, flow-volume loops, lung volume measurements, DLCO testing, MIP/MEP, Airway resistance, testing, ABG sampling/co-oximetry and analysis; pressure-volume, Cardiopulmonary Stress (CPET) tests, Simple stress tests, bronchial provocation tests, and the administration of nebulized medications.
4. Selects, obtains equipment and assures equipment readiness.
5. Performs quality control procedures for: blood analysis devices; diagnostic equipment; volume/flow/pressure calibration; gas metering devices.
6. Conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to maintain guidelines of the American Thoracic Society (ATS).
7. Evaluates and monitors patient's response to respiratory care during diagnostic/therapeutic procedures.
8. Checks all equipment and corrects malfunctions.
9. Demonstrates ability to identify when to accept and refer complex issues to the next level to facilitate problem resolution.
10. Demonstrates proficiency with clinical knowledge to be a resource person for new employees.
11. Stays current with department information and changes by reading the weekly Huddle and attending department meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Graduate of a CoARC approved respiratory program.
2. RRT or CRT required.
3. Current BLS certification.
4. Current National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credential in good standing.
5. State Medical Board of Ohio Respiratory Care license in good standing.
6. Recommend CPFT or RPFT certification.
7. NIOSH training within 2 years of hire date.
