Provides respiratory care to patients in alternate sites in accordance with AdaptHealths policies and procedures. Respiratory care will be preventative, rehabilitative, and palliative in nature. The RT will utilize all the resources available within the agency and community to accomplish care objectives. This position will provide education and care to the patient and communicate with team, physicians and referral sources and other patient agencies ensuring prompt attention to patient care issues. Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities: Utilizes various sources of information to attain greater competence about his or her position, including attending educational events (including attending optional in-services) and asking questions. Utilizes acquired knowledge to increase his or her competencies. Consistently demonstrates ability to adequately complete all documentation and charting procedures in compliance with company policy and procedures. Maintains complete and accurate patient files by updating all documents per company policy and procedures. Reviews Plan of Treatments and Care Plans to assure they are accurate and up to date. Documents procedures including how the patient tolerated a procedure, side effects and other pertinent information. Assists with authorization for Ventilator referrals for patients. Shows adequate knowledge of respiratory equipment and displays ability to utilize knowledge in the clinical setting. Displays knowledge of assessment skills and demonstrates application of clinical skills during set-ups, follow-ups, and in-services. Participates in discharge planning of highly technical cases. Performs clinical assessments as needed and reports results and recommendations to the referral and physician. Oversees departmental activities of a shift on a daily basis to ensure compliance with department and hospital policies. Coordinates quality patient care services by providing clinical/operational management during the shift(s) to include departmental staffing, assignments and conflict resolutions. Contributes to cost effective patient care by monitoring use of time, equipment and supplies. Attends all necessary meetings, to include staff meetings, meetings with physicians, Respiratory Care Manager, departmental in services and all other meetings as deemed necessary. Acts as resource and role model by providing direction, guidance and technical assistance to staff. Complies with safety policies and procedures in order to provide a safe environment for employees, patients and visitors. Demonstrates necessary flexibility in regard to changes in hospital or department activities. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients. Assesses/evaluates the learning needs of Respiratory Care staff and develops an educational plan to meet these needs, to include orientation program for registry staff and new employees, continuing education programs and educational offerings as appropriate based upon any quality improvement results. Provides coaching to staff as needed when clinical issues are identified. Provides for clinical consultation within the framework of the multi-disciplinary team meetings, as requested by the Respiratory Care Manager. Ability to problem solve, think critically, analyze situations, supervise under pressure, and facilitate at a high level. Assists Respiratory Care Manager with maintaining proper documentation for CAP inspections, assists with CAP visits, and maintains up to date information for regulatory inspections. Performs other duties as assigned. Education: Graduate of an AMA accredited 2 - 4 year Respiratory Care Program. A.S. degree required, B.S. preferred. Registered/Certified: Current California as Respiratory Care Practitioner license (RCP) required. Registered through the National Board of Respiratory Care required. Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards required. Current ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support per American Heart Association Standards required. *Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program Essential Provider (NRP Essential) status as per the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Heart Association required for Supervisors providing services in the NICU. Experience: Five (5) years' experience with Respiratory Care in all age groups. Demonstrated skills and knowledge in management and Quality Improvement theories, practices, and techniques/application. Comprehensive knowledge of Respiratory Care and principles, theories and practices. Supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge of cost-effective principle. Effective oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills for dealing with hospital employees.
