I'm partnering with a national events and tradeshow organization that is building an in‑house Design & Graphics department from the ground up, and they're looking for a visionary Director of Design & Graphic Production to lead the charge.

About the Role
In this newly created leadership role, you'll oversee design, workflow, large-format print production, operations, and staffing across multiple locations nationwide. You'll be responsible for developing the long-term vision, processes, and team structure while ensuring exceptional quality and on-time delivery for live events.

What You'll Lead
Department Strategy & Build-Out
Develop and execute the long-term vision for the Design & Graphics department
Build an organizational structure that can scale across multiple regions
Define roles, staffing plans, and growth paths for designers and production teams
Lead the transition from outsourced vendors to in‑house production where it makes sense
Design & Production Leadership
Oversee all creative design and graphic production company-wide
Maintain consistency in quality, brand standards, and client deliverables
Set standards for large-format printing, finishing, and installation readiness
Balance speed, cost, quality, and risk across numerous concurrent events
Workflow, Systems & Process
Own and refine the full workflow-from incoming design requests to final print release
Establish KPIs and operational benchmarks (turnaround times, accuracy, QC, revisions, etc.)
Manage asset storage platforms and identify opportunities for automation and efficiency
Oversee budget management, payroll oversight, and operational cost controls
People Leadership
Lead, mentor, and grow regional Design & Graphics teams
Oversee hiring, onboarding, training, and ongoing development
Cultivate a culture rooted in accountability, collaboration, and growth
Financial & Vendor Oversight
Manage budgets for labor, materials, equipment, and vendor partnerships
Oversee substrate sourcing, inventory strategy, and cost optimization
Analyze ROI for internal vs. external production decisions
Maintain relationships with overflow and specialty vendors
Cross-Functional Partnership
Collaborate closely with Account Management, Operations, Warehouse, and Executive Leadership
Translate business goals into scalable design and production strategies
Support leadership with data, forecasts, timelines, and risk assessments
Serve as the go-to escalation point for high-impact, time-sensitive issues
What You Bring
10+ years in tradeshow, exhibit, or experiential design and graphic production
Proven leadership of multi-disciplinary teams (design, print, production)
Strong knowledge of large-format printing, substrates, finishing, and event timelines
Experience building or scaling in-house production capabilities
Strong operational, financial, and organizational experience
Preferred Skills
Experience transitioning work from external vendors to internal teams
Familiarity with Salesforce‑triggered workflows and BOX or similar platforms
Experience managing multi-location teams
Background with a general contractor or exhibit house environment
Compensation
Estimated Salary: $125,000 - $140,000
A bonus component may be included based on performance and scalability milestones.

Large‑Format Print Production
Operate large‑format printers to produce high‑quality event and tradeshow graphics
Prepare and review files for print based on provided specifications
Monitor color accuracy, print quality, and material usage throughout production
Finishing & Fabrication
Mount, trim, and finish graphics on a variety of substrates, including:

Apply laminates and protective finishes as needed
Package completed graphics for transport and show‑site installation
Inventory & Material Handling
Assist with receiving, storing, and tracking graphic materials and substrates
Keep print and finishing areas clean, organized, and production‑ready
Help stage materials for upcoming events and installs
Quality Control & Deadlines
Inspect finished graphics for defects before release
Work efficiently within tight, event‑driven timelines
Communicate any issues or delays proactively to leadership
What We're Looking For

2+ years of experience in large‑format print production
