OPEN UNTIL FILLED Screening for minimum qualifications and district screening will be conducted on a rolling basis beginning August 18,2025, and may be extended to ensure a robust and competitive applicant pool. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED * Minimum age of 21. * Clearance for state and national background checks as a result of fingerprinting; successfully pass criminal records check * Obtain authorization from Washington State Superintendent of Public Instruction by successfully completing the School Bus Driver Training course. * Must possess a valid Washington State Commercial driver's license with the proper endorsements. * Meet the physical and mental standards necessary to perform the duties, tasks and responsibilities of a school bus driver as described in this . * Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. * Ability to learn and follow prescribed routes and time schedules. * Have at least one year of experience as a driver of a truck or commercial vehicle requiring a special endorsement or, in the alternative, at least three years of experience as a driver of a passenger vehicle. * Hold a current and valid first-aid card which certifies the applicant has completed a course in first aid. * Record of dependability, punctuality, flexibility and strong attendance REQUIRED CAPABILITIES * Sufficient command of the English language to communicate with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job-related activities. * Every authorized school bus driver must continue to meet the following physical requirements: * Is physically able to maneuver and control a school bus under all driving conditions; and * Is physically able to use all controls and equipment found on state minimum specified school buses; and * Is physically able to perform daily routine school bus vehicle safety inspections; and * Has sufficient strength and agility to move about in a school bus as required to provide assistance to students in evacuating a bus. The driver must be able to move from a seated position in a sixty-five passenger bus, or the largest school bus the driver will be operating, to the emergency door, all within twenty-five seconds. A school district may develop and implement an alternative assessment of physical strength and agility. The alternate assessment must be submitted by the school district superintendent for approval by OSPI; and * Provide verification of holding a current valid medical examiners certificate. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following conditions: * Significant: (i.e. driving, sitting, talking, hearing, walking, vision, color vision, peripheral/depth perception, ability to adjust focus, grasping, handling paperwork, repetitive motion, lifting up to 10 pounds) * Frequent: (i.e. standing, bending, carrying) * Occasional: (i.e. lifting over 10 pounds up to 45 pounds, reaching above the shoulder) Significant - Occupation requires this activity more than 66% of time (5.5+ hrs/day) Frequent - Occupation requires this activity from 33% to 66% of time (2.5 to 5.5+ hrs/day) Occasional - Occupation requires this activity up to 33% of time (0 to 2.5+ hrs/day) ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Operate a school bus or other motor vehicle for the purpose of transporting students to and from school routinely on scheduled routes and or school activities both within and outside the school district boundaries. * Maintain, inspect and clean school buses and related equipment as required by state and district policy: to include interior/exterior sweeping and washing, installation of fuel, oil and coolant, checking tire inflation, etc. Report any mechanical defects. * Maintain good order among students, as related to safety, while the bus is in motion and while parked. Report unsafe acts or conditions which require the attention of any person other than the driver. * Attend meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. For the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions. * Complete forms, records and reports as required by the state or local school district policies. * Report observations and/or incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel for their action. * Successfully complete school bus driver training programs and courses established by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and the school district, including first aid courses and written and driving tests. * Continue to comply with all the requirements for a school bus driver as set forth in Chapter 392-144 WAC and all other laws of the State of Washington, policies promulgated by the Superintendent of Public Instruction and other applicable local district policies. * Operate and maintain all school bus equipment and accessories including but not limited to fire extinguishers, highway warning kits, body fluid kits, snow chains, sanders, first aid kits, etc. * Submit to pre-employment, random, post accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty and follow-up; testing for drugs and or alcohol as required by State and Federal Law. * Perform other related duties as assigned by Transportation Supervisor for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the unit.     Transportation Additional Information: Show/Hide Job Title: Bus Monitor Reports To: Executive Director of Transportation & School Planning Contract Days: 175 Days Starting Base Pay: Primary Purpose: Ride buses and help ensure safe and orderly transportation of student with disabilities. Qualifications: Education/Certification: Valid Texas Driver's License Must be able to read, write and speak English Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to understand and follow written or verbal instructions Ability to communicate effectively with others Ability to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment Ability to manage student behavior Ability to work well with children with disabilities Experience: Must be 18 years or older Major Responsibilities and Duties: Student Management * Assist students on and off the bus according to their individual need including lifting and carrying students with disabilities. * Supervise students as they board and exit the bus and cross the street following established safety procedures. * Instruct students on safe entering, exiting, and riding rules and regulations. * Learn and adapt to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs. * Manage student behavior and report student discipline problems in a timely manner to appropriate administrator. * Communicate with teachers and parents regarding student behavior while on bus. Routes and Schedules * Complete and maintain accurate, updated, and timely records and reports including route sheet and daily non-notification forms. Safety * Operate equipment according to established safety procedures. Make sure seat belts, harnesses, or car seats are used correctly and help students use safety devises when needed. * Follow emergency procedures including evacuation of students as needed and assist driver to administer first aid, if necessary. * Follow established procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and assisting students. * Follow district protocols and emergency procedures. Other * Become familiar with and follow procedures established by transportation and special education offices. * Assist driver keeping bus clean and performance of per- and post-trip inspections. * Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing to confer with district personnel, students, and/or parents. * Communicate with students or parents on a regular basis via phone or video conference, email, or district-approved website.
