Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: * Drives students to and from school and special events in accordance with District policies and procedures; duties may vary according to job assignment. * Drives bus in compliance with state and federal safety policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. * Monitors and assists students, and enforces MPS policies and rules of conduct; reports behavior issues and other concerns to supervisor. * Assists in securing special needs students and special equipment. * Completes all required written reports. * Performs daily vehicle inspections, assures the bus is operating correctly, has proper fuel and fluids, and identifies vehicle problems requiring additional maintenance and repair. * Reports safety hazards, equipment problems, and emergency situations. * Reports unsafe acts, road conditions, accidents, and injuries; responds to emergencies as needed. * Cleans the bus interior and exterior, sweeps the floors, and cleans windows and seats. * Supports the relationship between the Minot Public School District and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with clients, visitors, and District staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and District information; follows compliance rules governing child abuse; performs related duties as required or assigned. Education, Training and Experience Guidelines High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Knowledge of: • MPS policies and procedures. * State and federal regulations governing school bus transportation. * Safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safe driving techniques in all road conditions. * Local geographical area, road systems, and city and state traffic regulations. Skill in: * Operating school buses in a safe manner, in compliance with all traffic laws, District policy and procedures, and state and local regulations. * Reacting quickly to situations that could create safety and security problems. * Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures. * Following and enforcing safe work practices and safety standards. * Assisting special needs students and special equipment. * Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers. * Communicating effectively verbally and in writing. LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS A valid North Dakota State Commercial Driver's License with school bus/passenger endorsement is required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in a school bus in a traffic environment, with moderate physical requirements; may be required to lift and move items weighing up to 35 pounds.
