A Senior Accounts Representative, also known as a Senior Account Manager, is a financial expert whose role generally boils down to the management of a portfolio of accounts and building stable, sturdy relationships with the holders of these accounts.

Of course, a Representative must also acquire new clients, work on and implement financial strategies specific to each client and purpose of which is to increase the value of the accounts put under their charge, and generally researching and acquiring new business and financial opportunities for themselves and clients alike. Due to the nature of this position, and the financial industry itself, a good Senior Account Representative must continue to learn and stay updated on financial and business news and research, on their competitors, and on the market as a whole.

A person hoping to work in this position must generally have a Bachelor's degree, preferably in some sort of Financial or Business field of study. Prior experience working in sales, business, or account management is also usually needed. A good Representative must also have good communication, customer service, project management, and analytical skills, as well some proficiency in business and financial software.

What general advice would you give to a senior accounts representative?

My advice would focus on three areas. First, adopt a growth/learner mindset. While your college degree has given you a great foundation of knowledge and skills, there is still much to learn. Second, build a community of support. Work (and life) are all about relationships. Put extra focus on building and maintaining strong relationships at work as well as outside of work. Finally, establish healthy work habits. Organizing your work, managing distraction, and getting the important work done (well and on time) are all essential skills for today's employees.
