Startup Recruiter
Atomic MacHines 3.7
Emeryville, CA job
Atomic Machines is ushering in a new era of micromanufacturing with its Matter Compiler technology platform. This platform enables new classes of micromachines to be designed and built by providing manufacturing processes and a materials library that are inaccessible to semiconductor manufacturing methods. It unlocks MEMS manufacturing not only for device classes that could never be produced by semiconductor methods, but also for entirely new categories. Furthermore, this digital platform is fully programmable in the way 3D printing is digital-but whereas 3D printing produces parts of a single material using a single process, the Matter Compiler technology platform is a multi-process, multi-material system: bits and raw materials go in, and complete, functional micromachines come out. The Atomic Machines team has also created an exciting first device-made possible only through the Matter Compiler technology platform-that we will be unveiling to the world soon.
Our offices are in Emeryville and Santa Clara, California.
About The Role:
This isn't your typical recruiting role-it's dynamic, immersive, and deeply rewarding. We're building breakthrough technology and will require our recruiter to be eager to learn across multiple engineering and operational disciplines, including mechanical systems, hardware, processes, design, production, and manufacturing. Every hire matters, and our standards are high-but they're fair, clearly defined, and rooted in first principles.
We're looking for a technically fluent recruiter who can engage confidently across domains-someone who can speak the language of engineers, understand how different disciplines intersect, and communicate the complexity and excitement of what we're building. You'll be embedded in the work: learning how our systems operate, and helping top engineering talent see the impact they can make here. We operate as one integrated team-collaboration, curiosity, and adaptability are key.
As a Startup Recruiter, you'll drive full-cycle recruiting for our technical and non-technical teams. You'll partner closely with hiring managers and interviewers to execute high-quality searches, maintain strong candidate pipelines, and help build the multidisciplinary foundation of a company that's redefining how things are made.
This role may be based out of Emeryville or Santa Clara, California
What You'll Do:
* Own full-cycle recruiting for roles across multiple engineering and operational domains-mechanical, electrical, embedded systems, finance, operations and manufacturing-from kickoff through close.
* Develop creative sourcing strategies that reach exceptional, often passive, technical talent from leading engineering and technology companies.
* Collaborate with engineers to learn the technology, understand the challenges, and authentically communicate our mission to candidates.
* Maintain clear, consistent communication to deliver a high-quality candidate experience from first touch to offer.
* Share standout talent and collaborate across the recruiting team by contributing to shared pipelines and feedback loops that drive transparency, teamwork, and company-wide hiring success.
* Continuously improve recruiting processes, tools, and metrics to increase speed, quality, and candidate engagement.
* Jump in where needed-whether it's refining a pitch, sourcing for a new function, or helping a teammate close a critical hire-this is a collaborative startup environment where adaptability matters.
What You'll Need:
* 3-5 years of full-cycle recruiting experience across technical or engineering disciplines, with demonstrated success in high-growth startup environments.
* A proven ability to engage and hire top engineering talent across multiple domains, such as program management, finance, software, or manufacturing.
* First-principles recruiting mindset - you question assumptions, dig into the "why" behind role needs, and design sourcing and evaluation strategies from the ground up rather than relying solely on precedent.
* Demonstrated success in developing and executing sourcing strategies that attract and engage passive talent.
* Experience using applicant tracking systems such as Greenhouse, Lever, or Ashby.
* Strong closing skills-you drive the process end-to-end with persistence, judgment, and finesse.
* A high degree of judgment and ability to operate autonomously while knowing when to collaborate or escalate.
* A genuine curiosity for complex technology-you ask questions, dig in, and build fluency in what our teams are developing.
* A collaborative mindset-you thrive in a team-driven recruiting culture that values shared wins and open communication.
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with attention to tone, clarity, and detail.
* Strong multitasking skills-you can balance multiple searches while maintaining a high bar for quality and candidate experience.
* Bachelor's degree.
* Availability to be on-site in Emeryville or Santa Clara, 3 days a week, working side-by-side with engineers and hiring managers.
The compensation for this position also includes equity and benefits.

Senior Staff Technical Program Manager, Hardware Systems
About the Role
We are seeking a highly technical Senior Staff Technical Program Manager (TPM) to lead the development and scaling of Nodes on the Matter Compiler - our modular manufacturing system. You will combine strong technical judgment with program leadership: defining scope and interfaces, setting ownership and success metrics, maintaining integrated plans, and running the operating cadence that drives execution.
You will drive programs for integrated machine systems spanning precision motion, optics/metrology, vacuum process modules, embedded software, and factory workcell infrastructure.
At Atomic Machines, the PMO is a leverage function. You will strengthen our execution system by tightening feedback loops, reducing friction, clarifying "done," and surfacing high-integrity signals on progress, risks, and decisions.
We are hiring TPMs across a range of experience levels from Senior to Senior Staff. Your actual level and compensation are determined based on your specific experience and skill level.
Core Outcomes
* Deliver Node, Module, or Platform initiatives to integration and deployment readiness
* Improve execution cadence, decision clarity, and cross-team synchronization
* Increase learning rate while maintaining release discipline, reliability, and scaling readiness
What You'll Do
* Own end-to-end program execution for assigned Nodes, Modules, or Platform initiatives
* Define scope, milestones, owners, success metrics, and delivery outcomes (time, cost, budget, change control)
* Lead cross-functional planning across ME, EE, Software, AI, Operations, and Leadership
* Build and maintain integrated execution plans that connect strategy to daily work, dependencies, and measurable progress
Drive effective change control by framing technical tradeoffs as structured decisions with clear options, risks, and implications
* Establish forecasts, measure execution against them, and improve the mechanisms that increase learning rate and reduce friction
* Design and refine deployment processes for our Hybrid Fab environment to enable rapid design-test-learn cycles
* Maintain dashboards, reviews, and reporting that provide real-time, data-driven visibility into program health
* Build scalable processes to eliminate recurring challenges (integration, pilot-to-production scaling, cross-team synchronization)
What You'll Need
* 10+ years spanning hands-on engineering and technical leadership (TPM, engineering management, or equivalent) on complex multidisciplinary products
* Proven track record delivering integrated hardware-electronics-software systems from concept through manufacturing release
Strong technical fluency grounded in real build experience - able to recognize when a decision requires more rigor vs when to move fast
* First-principles thinking with sound instincts for strategic tradeoffs (e.g., buy vs. build, specialization vs. generalization)
Experience with mechanical systems involving motion, kinematics, sensing, and closed-loop control, and software for embedded or hardware-adjacent systems
Strong bias for ownership and clarity in ambiguous environments
* Experience with iterative, incremental hardware development in fast-moving or startup contexts
* Demonstrated ability to structure ambiguous programs - breaking them down into fundamental components, dependencies, and a fast cycle-time execution model
* Strong executive presence and communication - trusted by both technical teams and leadership
* High EQ and sound judgment navigating complex people dynamics across technical organizations
* BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
Nice to Have
* Experience with semiconductor tools, robotics hardware, factory automation, or aerospace systems.
* Experience driving reliability growth, scaling readiness, and manufacturing release processes.
The compensation for this position also includes equity and benefits.

Senior CNC Machinist (11:00pm to 7:30am)
Atomic MacHines 3.7
Emeryville, CA job
Atomic Machines is ushering in a new era of micromanufacturing with its Matter Compiler™ technology. This full-stack technology enables new classes of micromachines to be designed and built by offering manufacturing processes and a materials library that is inaccessible to semiconductor manufacturing methods. It promises to unlock MEMS manufacturing for the many device classes frustrated by semiconductor methods and to open up entirely new product classes. The Matter Compiler™ technology fully realizes the digital manufacturing dream: bits and raw materials go in, and complete, functional micromachines come out. The Atomic Machines team has also created an exciting first device - one that was only made possible by the existence of the Matter Compiler™ technology - that we will be unveiling to the world soon.
Our offices are in Emeryville and Santa Clara, California. About the role:
This role will begin on the day shift (8:30am - 5:00pm) to support initial ramp-up and training. Within the first three months, it will transition to a permanent night shift, operating from 11:00pm to 7:30am.
As a Prototype Machinist, you will be responsible for making parts from start to finish in our machine shop in Emeryville. This includes ordering tooling and materials, process development, CAM programming, fixture design, manufacturing the parts on the machines, and metrology / inspection.. You will also provide feedback on designs to make manufacturing faster, easier, and more repeatable. You will think quickly, produce quality work, and anticipate concerns before they become blockers. Additionally, you will collaborate with a small team of machinists in charge of keeping the shop clean, safe, and organized, enforcing shop policies, and training staff.
What You'll Do:
Interpret 3D models and engineering drawings to plan setups, program CAM, design fixturing, and run inspection workflows.
Operate a variety of CNC machines (3-axis, 3+2, and 5-axis mills; live-tool lathes; waterjets; and laser cutters) while maintaining tolerances down to ±0.0005 in (±13 µm).
Develop innovative work-holding and tooling solutions for prototyping
Generate efficient CAM programs, manage tool libraries, and maintain CAM templates.
Perform in-process and final inspections using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and CMM.
Optimize feeds and speeds and drive continuous improvements in shop processes.
Collaborate with engineers and machinists to provide design-for-manufacturing feedback on machined and welded parts/assemblies.
Support fabrication of tooling, fixturing, and other structures for R&D hardware.
Document setups, offsets, inspection results, and lessons learned to strengthen tribal knowledge.
Uphold safety protocols, PPE usage, and compliance with company standards.
Contribute to shop cleanliness, organization, and equipment readiness.
Proactively manage assigned projects to deliver parts on schedule.
What you'll need:
A first-principles mindset - You question assumptions, break problems down to fundamentals, and prefer root-cause solutions over pattern-matching.
3+ years of CNC machining experience in a high-mix, low-volume environment, with exposure to 5-axis or mill-turn systems.
Welding certification with strong knowledge of codes, symbols, and techniques.
Expertise in at least one CAM platform (e.g., Fusion 360, Mastercam, HyperMill), with flexibility to adapt to others.
Strong GD&T literacy and ability to interpret complex drawings, consistently holding tolerances of
Proficiency in metrology tools and inspection methods (CMM experience preferred).
Experience machining and welding a range of materials, including aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium.
Skilled in manual machining equipment such as mills, lathes, drill presses, and saws.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to document, share workflows, and provide constructive feedback.

Staff Laser Process Engineer
We are seeking a technical leader to shape the future of our laser-based manufacturing processes, from development to scaled production. This role bridges advanced micromachining, materials physics, and optical systems, operating at the nexus of hardware, software, device design, and process. In this capacity, you will lead laser process development and optimization efforts to deliver rapid and precise operations, including cutting, milling, selective ablation, and welding using a suite of in-house-built pulsed-laser machines. You will champion innovative metrology methods to analyze laser-material interactions, including in situ probes, feeding AI-enabled learning and process optimization. Additionally, this role involves solving complex tool path optimization problems leveraging both commercial and custom CAD and CAM software packages. The ideal candidate is capable of carrying a laser processing technology through its entire life cycle-from first principles to experimentation and prototyping, and finally translating it to our digital, autonomous manufacturing platform at scale.
What You'll Do:
* Lead the development, optimization, and scaling of pulsed-laser manufacturing processes, including cutting, milling, selective ablation, and welding.
* Design, implement, and analyze experiments to understand laser-material interactions across metals, ceramics, and polymers, and document and standardize processes to ensure reproducibility and support scale-up.
* Develop and refine tool paths and machine programs using CAD/CAM software and G-code to maximize precision and efficiency.
* Apply advanced metrology and materials characterization techniques to evaluate process outcomes and guide improvements.
* Work with laser system design engineers to translate process learnings into system usability, performance, and feature development.
* Partner with Design, AI, Hardware/Software, and Manufacturing teams while mentoring engineers and technicians to champion best practices and drive process quality and efficiency.
* Ensure safe operation of high-power laser systems, adhering to industry standards and internal safety protocols.
What You'll Need:
* A master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials, or a related field, and 10+ years of industry experience.
* Exceptional foundational knowledge of pulsed-laser physics (e.g., pulse duration, beam profile control), heat transfer, and materials science.
* Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting pulsed-laser processing equipment and material responses, including nanosecond and femtosecond laser systems.
* Proficiency in CAD/CAM and machine tool programming, including G-code, for laser machining.
* Proficiency in design of experiments (DOE) and statistical process control (SPC), with fluency in tools like JMP, Minitab, SAS, or Python-based analytics.
* Experience with metrology tools, including optical imaging and profilometry, CMM, SEM/EDS/EBSD, XRF, X-ray CT, and IR imaging and spectroscopy.
* Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with a passion for mentorship, team building, and organizational scaling.
* Familiarity with AI/ML-enabled manufacturing and comfort collaborating with AI and software development teams is a plus.
The compensation for this position also includes equity and benefits.
