The ideal candidate writes functional software for deployment on embedded devices and systems for aircraft and payloads. This requires the engineer to design, develop, and optimize system software for flight control, sensor processing, and mission execution as well as analyze and enhance efficiency, stability and scalability of the software. There is a mix of full lifecycle development as well as a need to use existing software code base to expand the capabilities to match specific program requirements.
Position Responsibilities
+ Writes and tests software to support integration of sensors and embedded processors into aircraft (such as autopilots, payloads, software defined radios or other functional components) or other robotic systems
+ Designs and implements software for prototypes and products using established AV and industry developed tools and practices. Ensure good configuration control and management of software
+ Assists in writing of system requirements, system test plans, diagnostic tools, and in validation testing of software. Assists with hardware selection and recommend processing, memory and storage needs of systems
+ Development will often support rapid prototyping and conceptual level testing and will require estimating time to develop software and scoping the depth of the development with project/program management to fit timeline and budget constraints
+ Effectively provides development updates and estimate milestone dates to help track progress and ensure project requirements are met on schedule

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

Job Summary:
Conducts large-scale testing and validation of new Explosion Protection concepts, products, processes, and applications utilizing sound experimental design and engineering principles to ensure that goals and objectives of projects are accomplished within the prescribed timeframe and budget. Provides the required level of support according to project plans and according to completion schedules with some management support. Provides structured data, observations, results, reports and recommendations detailing performance of new concepts, products, processes, and applications for further analysis by EP Scientists and Product Development engineers.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Assigned as laboratory representative in cross-functional Explosion Protection Technology activities.
2. Participates in the development of technical requirements for product technical specifications.
3. Supports the definition of full-scale test requirements for all explosion protection product and application development projects, as well as explosion phenomena research testing.
4. Provides accurate and comprehensive analysis and documentation of large-scale and laboratory-scale tests of new Explosion Protection concepts, products, processes, and applications.
5. Provides objective validation that new product qualification test results meet established project identification performance requirements.
6. Works closely with laboratory technical/technician resources to accomplish required test programs.
7. Provides budgetary feedback in establishing fiscal plans for testing and development activities.
8. Provides written updates and supports discussions on key test activities.
9. Documents test program setup and results in comprehensive technical test reports.
10. Participates in execution of test programs to ensure schedules and cost targets are met.
11. Analyzes and provides feedback on proposed test plans and participates in test plan development.
12. Assists in the identification of all necessary tooling, materials, hardware, and other items as required to support established test programs.
13. Performs engineering calculations for test equipment mechanical integrity and safety.
14. Identifies data requirements, coordinates data acquisition, and formats data for further analysis.
15. Actively participates in test execution and problem solving.

Serco is seeking a motivated professional to join our team as a Software Engineer with the Innovations Section of the Data Visualization Team (DVT), U.S. Army Mission Command Training Program (MCTP) Technical Support Group (TSG). The location of this position is Fort Leavenworth, KS.
This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain/maintain/transfer an active DoD Secret security clearance.
A Software Engineer will implement, test, document, support, and maintain software and solutions for the ARCHER system in accordance with MCTP and Government policies. Engineers also support fielded solutions for the ARCHER Admin Team who help test, install, configure, and operate the software.
In this role, you will:
Implement solutions from design through deployment and configuration for native Microsoft Windows apps that involve Microsoft Office Integration, Relational Database, and Winforms
Implement SharePoint and Teams solutions that utilize SQL server and MS Access together with output in Excel and PowerPoint, etc.
Familiar with Microsoft Development Environment (Visual Studio IDE) and use of Office Interop for automation
Familiar with creating and utilizing virtual machines using VMWare/Proxmox/Hyper-V/VirtualBox
Basic system admin and operations skills for interfacing with servers/services
Project management and status reporting
Creation of design documents, development timelines, data and logical diagrams, release notes, test plans, user's guides, training material, and other software documentation
Creation of development and test environments
Assist with creation and maintenance of Microsoft Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux baseline system images

To be successful in this role, you must have:
A U.S. citizenship
This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain/maintain/transfer an active DoD Secret security clearance
A Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or information technology, or closely related fields
The ability to complete and obtain the following MCTP/US Army/DoD training requirements:
CompTIA Security+ Certification (within 6 months)
Annual training certifications as directed by the organization
Annual Serco training requirements
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to program/understand/build applications using the following programming languages:
C#
SQL
Java, JavaScript
VBA (Visual Basic for Applications, MS Office)
PowerShell scripts, BASH scripts
XML, JSON
MSI, Microsoft Installer packaging, RPM, Redhat packaging
The ability to travel as needed (up to 10% of the time)
The ability to work during weekends and/or night-shift assignment during MCTP WFX execution (infrequent)
The ability to provide support via on-call 24/7 during MCTP WFX execution (up to 16 weeks per year)
Additional desired experience and skills:
An active DoD Secret security clearance
Experience developing applications for Cloud deployment (AWS, Azure, etc.)
Experience with AI-integrated development tools or development of AI-integrated applications
Familiar with RMF security requirements as they apply to software and computer systems
Relevant certifications
Experience with Microsoft Windows 11 and Redhat Enterprise Linux operating systems
Experience with Git and bug/feature tracking/project management tools
Ability to program/understand/build applications usingone or more of the following technologies:
Pearl, Python, PHP, HTML, CSS, or other web-oriented languages
Relational database management systems such as PostGreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle
C++, C, VisualBASIC.NET
