Job Description
Leigh Orthopedic Surgery Center is offering an excellent opportunity for a SterileProcessing (SPD) Technician to join the team at our successful ASC in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area.
Summary: The SterileProcessing Tech works to maintain the cleanliness, functionality, and inventory of the instruments, equipment, and re-usable medical supplies according to nationally recognized standards, regulations, and center policies to ensure safe, quality patient care.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Demonstrates knowledge of the decontamination, cleaning, prepping, and sterilization of surgical instruments, re-usable supplies, and equipment.
Demonstrates knowledge of cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization equipment and its use in the decontamination / sterileprocessing area.
Demonstrates knowledge of the SPD department duties including:
Understanding the use and handling of chemicals used in the SP area
Commitment to following the recommended instructions for decontaminating, cleaning, sonification, drying, flushing, sterilizing, etc. items in the SP area
Use of appropriate biological and chemical monitoring with documentation of such
rotating of processed instruments
inspection of said items
Demonstrates a commitment to follow "Instructions For Use" (IFU) information from manufacturers' related to all items that flow through the SP area.
Monitor the surgical schedule to anticipate instrumentation, equipment, re-usable medical supply needs.
Remove defective items from service and replace missing items, and alert other parties in a timely manner when items are missing.
Maintains appropriate tray lists and inventory stock
Maintains accurate, detailed, documentation.
Pursues additional knowledge and training to remain current on standards and regulations relating to the sterileprocessing area.
Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, center/service safety, and specific job related hazards.
Follows the center exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a center team to facilitate the center's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications:
High school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED)
One-Year certificate from college or technical school; or 3+ years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
CPR certification required
Certified SterileProcessingTechnician preferred
ASC experience preferred
The starting hourly rate for this position is $23.00, with the final offer dependent on the candidate's experience and qualifications.

HOW YOU'LL MAKE AN IMPACT
As a SterileProcessingTechnician, you would be processing all surgical equipment needed for production processing in accordance with defined standard operating procedures and governing standards in compliance with LifeNet Health's Quality Systems, Corporate Compliance programs and department safety policies and procedures.
Important: This role requires the ability to sit, stand, bend, walk and lift up to 50 lbs. for the duration of the shift; as well as wear personal protective equipment to include: surgical gowns, masks, visors or goggles and caps.
These roles are critical to the LifeNet Health mission because it is an important step in taking the donor's gifts and transitioning them to the lifesaving and health restoring allografts for patients around the globe.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Accurately inspects, prepares and packages all instrumentation and equipment for sterilization.
Decontaminates all instrumentation and equipment effectively ensuring adherence to quality standards.
Stocks case carts to ensure all items are accounted for and available for processing and/or other departments as assigned. Processes and completes associated case cart documentation.
Sterilizes all equipment ensuring the appropriate sterilization method is used and respective SOP followed. Operates Steam and EO sterilizers and accurately completes associated documentation.
Participate in department continuous improvement initiatives, as assigned by management.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Minimum Requirements:

COMPENSATION

The Delivery Technician is responsible for delivering durable medical equipment to Apria patients in the home.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Pulls, packs, delivers and picks up medications, supplies and basic equipment.
* May instruct patients on basic use of respiratory therapy equipment, durable medical equipment, oxygen equipment, and other equipment/services approved by state licensure limitations.
* Loads and unloads durable medical and infusion equipment onto delivery vehicle.

**Job Summary:**
The SterileProcessingTechnician Certified, under general supervision, will inspect, clean, assemble, test, and processes patient care equipment, supplies, and instruments according to established policies and procedures and according to manufacturer's instructions for use. They will act in accordance to sterility per the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), The Joint Commission (JCAHO), Center for Disease Control (CDC), and state standards of practice. Primary duties may vary depending on area assigned.
**Essential Functions:**
+ Performs decontamination functions including manual cleaning and processing of surgical instrumentation and patient care equipment according to manufacturer's instructions for use.
+ Applies proper knowledge of various detergents and chemical disinfectants for use in the decontamination and removal of blood, bone, and other body tissues from contaminated surgical equipment. Adheres to standard precautions while performing cleaning and sterilization duties.
+ Inventories, stocks, and delivers supplies, carts, equipment to all facility areas as indicated per facility guidelines. Orders, restocks, labels, and maintains proper inventory levels. Rotates stock, inspecting for outdates per market requirements.
+ Performs and documents quality control aspects of sterileprocessing using various information technology systems focusing on instrument tracking, surgery schedules, surgeon preference cards, supply ordering and management. Accurately maintains comprehensive quality assurance standards related to sterilization and infection control.
+ Operates and understands various sterilizers and sterilizing techniques required to produce sterile packages for use in the surgical setting keeping package assembly aseptic protocols in mind. Monitors sterilization regularly ensuring quality assurance through chemical and biological indicators and integrators.
+ Documents all activities as required within the outlined processes and reports variances that may affect the outcome of sterile products or patient care and safety.
+ Identifies and resolves infection control issues in and around transport of biological hazardous materials, including the use of universal precautions and correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as sterile product identification.
+ Demonstrates knowledge of the operation and testing of washers and/or disinfectors, steam, and hydrogen peroxide gas plasma sterilizers, and other facility specific equipment and instrumentation.
+ Identifies surgical instrumentation by surgical specialty: General, Gynecological, Robotic, ENT, Orthopedics, Neurological, Vascular, Obstetrical, Urological, etcetera. Including functionality testing, assembly and disassembly as required according to manufacturer's instructions for use.
+ Participates in ongoing educational and competency verification opportunities.
+ Participates in the orientation of new staff and students as assigned.
+ Participates in the continuing development of personnel in the Operating Room.
+ Accessible for "on call" as scheduled and is available within the time frames as indicated by the department.

POSITION SUMMARY
Assists the Operating Room (OR) staff in the organization and daily function of the operating room in accordance with established Federal, State and accreditation standards and center policies and procedures. Responsible for instrument decontamination, sterileprocessing, and instrument care and handling and documentation and record keeping related to those activities.

Understands principles of sterilization and the operation of sterilization equipment, tray and load tracking, daily equipment monitoring with Bowie Dick test, chemical indicators, and biologics. Documents missing, damaged, newly ordered, borrowed and sent for repair instruments. Records temperature /humidity of operating rooms, refrigerators and blanket warmer temperature in log book. Documents maintenance of equipment. Has the ability to adhere to work schedule, be organized, manage time effectively and in a cost effective manner. Participates in continuing education/in-service training as needed, staff meetings, and the QAPI/Infection Control programs. Actively participates in the development of a healthy work environment. Assists in departmental cost containment. Orients and mentors new staff members.

EDUCATION / REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma or GED required
Central sterile or operating room experience preferred
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required
