+ Instrumentation Assembly:
+ Identifies, inspects, and assembles all general and specialty instruments, various power equipment, laser and endoscopic instruments per specifications and manufacturer recommendations.
+ Preparation and Packaging:
+ According to manufacturer guidelines, selects and prepares packaging materials for the sterilization of reusable instrumentation.
+ Principles of Sterilization:
+ Selects appropriate method of sterilization. Maintains accurate sterilization records. Properly loads and unloads sterilization cart items. Verifies that sterilization parameters have been met before distribution of load.
+ Equipment and Supply Management:
+ Collect, clean, check, distribute, and track patient care equipment. As designated, order patient care equipment, inventory assigned supply areas for replenishment, and rotate stock appropriately and stocks general and surgical carts. Report all malfunctioning equipment to appropriate department.

Experience
+ One year experience in instrument processing. Must know Medical Terminology to understand instrumentation, surgical procedures, and surgical schedule. Must have knowledge of various types of reusable surgical instrumentation, including power equipment and micro surgical instrumentation. Must know how to operate SterileProcessing departmental equipment (i.e. washers, ultrasonic, steam, gas, and chemical sterilizer). * Oral Exam: The oral exam is a structured interview process that will assess the candidate's education, training, and experience and may include a practical exercise. Process used dental instruments and equipment to include receiving, cleaning, wrapping, and sterilization of semi-critical and critical items; disinfect non-critical portable dental equipment; inspect contents of all instrument cassettes and packages for completeness and damage; replace as needed. Operate and assist in the maintenance of washing and cleaning sterilization machines in central sterilization, including weekly biological testing of all autoclaves. Prepare pre-packaged disposable items; dispense instrument cassettes and dental materials/equipment according to established procedures. Maintain an accurate inventory of borrowed and returned cassettes, materials, and equipment; maintain security of all inventory according to established procedures. Understand and properly employ the electronic tracking system using bar coding, scanners, and reports provided by tracking software. Order supplies for dispensing windows; restock inventory as needed; track inventory in the dispensary and storage lockers. Maintain a neat, clean and orderly sterilization room and dispensing area according to established standards. Monitor adherence to infection control policies and procedures among clinic students, residents and faculty. Perform other duties as assigned by the Sterilization and Dispensing Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of: Sterilization techniques. Dental instruments/materials and their use. Dental terminology and procedures. Infection control protocol and requirements. Ability to: Index and alphabetize accurately. Recognize and set-up dental instruments. Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in a dental/medical setting. Education/Certifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Certification in Central Sterilization required or obtain within 12 months of employment Working Conditions: Position is full-time, seven and one half (7.5) hours per day, five (5) days per week. Education: Completion of an approved operating room technician training or program within the past five years.

Selection Procedures
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will go through the following examination process:
* Written Exam: The civil service written exam is a multiple choice format. If the written exam is administered alone, it will be 100% of the overall score. Candidates must achieve a minimum rating of 70% in order to be placed on the eligible list.
* Oral Exam: The oral exam is a structured interview process that will assess the candidate's education, training, and experience and may include a practical exercise. The oral exam selection process is not a hiring interview. A panel of up to four people will determine the candidate's score and rank for placement on the eligible list. Top candidates from the eligible list are referred for hiring interviews. If the oral exam is administered alone, it will be 100% of the overall score. Candidates must achieve a minimum rating of 70% in order to be placed on the eligible list.
* Written & Oral Exam: If both a written exam and an oral exam is administered, the written exam is weighted at 60% and the oral exam is weighted at 40% unless otherwise indicated on the announcement. Candidates must achieve a minimum rating of 70% on each examination in order to be placed on the eligible list.
* Rate-out: A rate-out is an examination that involves a paper rating of the candidate's application using the following criteria: education, training, and experience. Candidates will not be scheduled for the rate-out process.
Note: The rating of 70 referred to may be the same or other than an arithmetic 70% of the total possible points.
