About the Role The Sterile Processing Tech is responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of supplies, instrumentation, and equipment dispensed by the department throughout the hospital. Follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas. Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment. Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes them available to sterile processing customers in a timely manner. Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects, and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment. Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and in equipment storage areas. Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair, or replacement, and removes defective equipment. The Sterile Processing Tech Coordinator is responsible for the allocation and completion of assigned functions by staff in the department. This position will serve as a team lead and ensure adequate staff coverage to complete the decontamination and assembly process in order to maintain availability of instruments, scopes and equipment to meet department needs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE Coordinates sterilization schedules to meet the daily operating room (OR) needs. Coordinates staff workload to ensure the needs of the next business day instrument list are met and instruments are available for all surgical cases. Assists in training technician staff and the orientation process of new employees. Completes sterilization, assembles and packages specialty instrument trays for procedures to ensure all instruments are clean, decontaminated and stocked to maintain a safe patient environment.
