Under the direct supervision of the Sterile Processing Manager, responsible for decontamination, assembly and preparation, sterilization and distribution of medical instruments and supplies to the operating room and minor equipment items throughout the hospital. Ensures working with infection control on updating any new guidelines and or processes that need to be implemented. In this position, the incumbent will provide sterilization, preparation, supply items and reusable medical equipment, decontamination and distribution support for the medical center. The term "supply item" as used in this functional statement refers to disposable and reusable items for patient care including instrumentation, surgical trays and sets and various other items that could be processed or assembled through the Preparation and Decontamination areas of Sterile Processing Service. The Medical Supply Technician (MST) (Sterile Processing) - Advanced Level will have knowledge of the processes for Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) as required by this position. The incumbent will be required to maintain current knowledge of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) which document the processes and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and preparation of RME appropriate to this position. The incumbent will be able to demonstrate their ability to utilize an acceptable proficiency in the use of RME appropriate to this position. The Incumbent will assemble highly complex instrument sets used in the operating room and clinical setting including, but not limited to: open heart, major orthopedic total joint, cardiovascular, craniotomy, thoracic and complex endoscopic instrumentation. Processes all complex endoscopic instrumentation to include those medical devices used in gastroenterology laboratory, bronchoscopy laboratory, urology and operating room. Under the direct supervision of the Sterile Processing Manager, responsible for decontamination, assembly and preparation, sterilization and distribution of medical instruments and supplies to the operating room and minor equipment items throughout the hospital. Qualifications Education/Training • High school diploma or equivalent Licensure/Certification • Certification through HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association), CRCST, or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) (CSPDT) Experience • Two years of experience in a healthcare based sterile processing department Education/Training • High school diploma or equivalent Licensure/Certification • Certification through HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association), CRCST, or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) (CSPDT) Experience • Two years of experience in a healthcare based sterile processing department Essential Functions • Assembles instrument trays for operating rooms and oversees daily operations of all activities that relate to the reprocessing of reusable medical supplies and instrumentation. • Ensure all team members follow proper operational procedures. • Assumes responsibility, in collaboration with SPD Supervisor, for scheduling new employee orientation, on-the-job training, and in-service education and facility quality assurance programs as needed. • Completes some of the documentation required by facility related to inventory/equipment requests and repairs. • Maintains a professional relationship with all facility's departments as necessary to ensure effective, efficient support to the patient caregivers. • Prepares instruments and supplies through cleaning, packing, sterilizing, and storing procedures. • Performs equipment distribution and routing cleaning and maintenance. • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards. • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
