What you'll do: Assists the OR staff in the organization and daily function of the operating room in accordance with established Federal, State and accreditation standards and center policies and procedures. Responsible for instrument decontamination, sterile processing, and instrument care and handling and documentation and record keeping related to those activities. Coordinates and follows through with all instrument training and equipment repairs. Trains new staff how to work in the varying areas of the department. Acts as a SPD role model for customer service, professional conduct and leadership. In addition to sterile processing responsibilities, will provide a combination of janitorial and patient care services assisting with the preparation and turnover of daily surgical procedures in conjunction with other members of the surgical team and will also ensure that the operating rooms are cleaned before, during and after surgery. RESPONSIBILITIES * Accountable for the delivery of quality patient care in the Operating Room. * Demonstrates active communication and participation with designated O.R. team members. * Demonstrates advanced knowledge in the use of all equipment to support primary service * Anticipates the need of the surgeon in order to expedite the surgical procedure. * Assists with the preparation of equipment and supplies required for the surgical procedure. * Plans for and coordinates instrument needs for intra operative use. * Demonstrates proficiency and knowledge of instruments for all types of surgery. * Demonstrates knowledge of the storage of instruments and those supplies maintained in SPD. * Inspects and tests instruments and equipment; ensures that specialty and general instruments are functioning and reports any abnormalities to Director of Nursing or Administrator; takes immediate action if required by the situation. * Demonstrates care, handling, and assembly of accessory and specialty SPD equipment. * Ensures the proper functioning of laparoscopic and arthroscopic cameras and scopes. * Demonstrates proficiency with the use of specialized equipment, i.e., drills, arthroscopes, etc. * Demonstrates knowledge of prescribed procedures for terminally cleaning all items that have come in contact with the patient and/or sterile field. * Demonstrates awareness of special care procedures for specialty items and equipment by following proper procedure. * Maintains and enforces highest standard of sterile technique and safe environment during instrument processing and throughout the facility. * Demonstrates advanced skill as a resource person in primary service. * Completes annual skills competency validation * Completes mandatory education and training * Actively participates in team planning and independently executes established plans. * Prepares the operating room at the beginning of the day by sanitizing all flat surfaces and equipment using special cleaners known as germicides * Assists the surgical team in positioning patients * Sweep and mop floors between surgical procedures; more often if necessary * Assists in transferring patients from the operating room bed to the recovery stretchers and cleans the operating room for the next procedure * Changing bed sheets in between surgical procedures * Responsible for the management of linen and scrub attire * Assist the Materials Manager with inventory receiving and control's * May be asked to assist clinical staff in picking cases for future surgical procedures * Complies with the facility's time and attendance policy. * Promotes teamwork between people, departments and services. * Uses effective communication skills to create a culture of collaboration and respect. * Accepts suggestions and feedback from others. * Adheres to the professional standards set forth in the Employee Handbook.

Acts as a SPD role model for customer service, professional conduct and leadership. In addition to sterile processing responsibilities, will provide a combination of janitorial and patient care services assisting with the preparation and turnover of daily surgical procedures in conjunction with other members of the surgical team and will also ensure that the operating rooms are cleaned before, during and after surgery. RESPONSIBILITIES Accountable for the delivery of quality patient care in the Operating Room. Demonstrates active communication and participation with designated O.R. team members. Demonstrates advanced knowledge in the use of all equipment to support primary service Anticipates the need of the surgeon in order to expedite the surgical procedure. Assists with the preparation of equipment and supplies required for the surgical procedure. Plans for and coordinates instrument needs for intra operative use. Demonstrates proficiency and knowledge of instruments for all types of surgery. Demonstrates knowledge of the storage of instruments and those supplies maintained in SPD. Inspects and tests instruments and equipment; ensures that specialty and general instruments are functioning and reports any abnormalities to Director of Nursing or Administrator; takes immediate action if required by the situation. Demonstrates care, handling, and assembly of accessory and specialty SPD equipment. Ensures the proper functioning of laparoscopic and arthroscopic cameras and scopes. Demonstrates proficiency with the use of specialized equipment, i.e., drills, arthroscopes, etc. Demonstrates knowledge of prescribed procedures for terminally cleaning all items that have come in contact with the patient and/or sterile field. Demonstrates awareness of special care procedures for specialty items and equipment by following proper procedure. Maintains and enforces highest standard of sterile technique and safe environment during instrument processing and throughout the facility. Demonstrates advanced skill as a resource person in primary service. Completes annual skills competency validation Completes mandatory education and training Actively participates in team planning and independently executes established plans. Prepares the operating room at the beginning of the day by sanitizing all flat surfaces and equipment using special cleaners known as germicides Assists the surgical team in positioning patients Sweep and mop floors between surgical procedures; more often if necessary Assists in transferring patients from the operating room bed to the recovery stretchers and cleans the operating room for the next procedure Changing bed sheets in between surgical procedures Responsible for the management of linen and scrub attire Assist the Materials Manager with inventory receiving and control's May be asked to assist clinical staff in picking cases for future surgical procedures Complies with the facility's time and attendance policy. Promotes teamwork between people, departments and services. Uses effective communication skills to create a culture of collaboration and respect. Accepts suggestions and feedback from others. Adheres to the professional standards set forth in the Employee Handbook. Qualifications Who you are: High School diploma or GED. 2-3 years of experience in similar work environment required. Central sterile or operating room experience required. Sterile Processing & Distribution Certification. Must fulfill continuing education requirements to maintain certification. High School Diploma, GED, or a higher level of education that would require the completion of high school, is required. One year of recent full time CSR experience preferred. Central Sterile Technician certification through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or the International Association of Healthcare Central Service and Materials Management (IAHCSMM). If not currently certified, certification must be obtained within 18 months of hire.
