DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
Harborview ‘s Central Processing Unit manages the entire workflow of sterile instruments in the medical center and our supported clinics. The CPU is tasked with standardizing and consolidating the processes used to ensure the highest levels of sterility and cleanliness are being met for our patients. Utilizing the latest techniques and applying breakthrough technologies, the CPU provides unparalleled support to the Harborview mission of Patients Are First.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Pick up and transport soiled instruments, case carts, basins, respiratory items, and patient equipment from all patient care areas to the decontamination area for reprocessing
Assemble and set up patient equipment such as IV pumps, vacuum regulators (wall suction), chest pumps, hyper/hypothermia units; test and make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment
Load and operate semi-automatic cart washer to clean case carts, utility carts, patient chairs, etc.
Sterilizer function tests using vacuum, chemical and biological indicators
Load autoclave carts and sterilize surgical instrument sets and respiratory equipment
Inventory shelves of processed items; rotate trays and products; manage expiration dates
Load and unload linen carts for steam sterilization
Decontaminate all soiled instruments according to Procedure and Policy standards
Inspect, test, and assemble package based on the guidelines
Scan, document, and label for inspection, testing, and assembly
REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduation or equivalent AND one to two years of experience processing complex trays of surgical instruments and equipment

Identifies and reports supply, equipment, and procedure problems to the Operations Supervisor or Manager. Works with and under the guidance of the Lead Central Services Technician, Central Services Coordinator, and Materials Coordinator to prioritize tasks in order to support clinical operations effectively and efficiently.
May be asked to perform as Lead Technician; this includes the assignment, training, and allocation of staffing resources to meet the needs of clinical operations. UWMC- Montlake Central Supplies Processing Department (CSPD) has an outstanding opportunity for a **Hospital Central Services Technician 2.** **WORK SCHEDULE** + 40 hours per week + 1 day shift open + 3 Evening shift open **DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION** CSPD is instrumental to patient care and provides cleaning, reprocessing & sterilization support services to Surgical Services and UW Medicine customers.
We are open 24/7. We collect, reprocess & stock an average of 6,500 surgical trays and some 6,500 items a week. Our team focuses on compliance with all necessary regulatory requirements and quality assurances in order to provide the highest quality surgical Instruments.
**PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ Decontaminate, process, sterilize and assemble complex arrangements of specialized and intricate surgical instruments, equipment and supplies for surgical procedures following established guidelines
+ Prioritize the need for instruments, equipment and supplies based on the scheduled surgical cases, surgeries in process and surgical cases added during the work schedule
+ Identify and sort contaminated instruments and equipment
+ Disassemble and reassemble items with multiple parts
+ Recognize dissembled parts of intricate instruments and equipment; reassemble and/or return to appropriate trays
+ Determine and use the appropriate decontamination procedure
+ Disassemble and decontaminate equipment and instruments using approved disinfectants, detergents, soaps, cleaners and processing methods
+ Collect and dispose of large volumes of biohazardous waste materials from surgical procedures
+ Inspect, test, reassemble, test for proper functioning, package, label and date instrumentation and equipment
**REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS**
High school graduation or equivalent
AND
One to two years of experience processing complex trays of surgical instruments and equipment
OR
equivalent education/experience.
