**Job Summary and Responsibilities** As our Sterile Processing Professional, you will be a critical guardian of patient safety, ensuring surgical teams receive correct, fully functional, and sterile instrumentation. Every day, you will expertly perform decontamination, prep and pack, sterilization, and dispatch with efficiency, expertise, and accuracy, delivering instruments with resourcefulness, determination, courtesy, and professionalism. + Collects and decontaminates and cleans reusable equipment and/or supplies and associated storage units in accordance with department, manufacturer, and OSHA standards.

+ Inspects, disassembles sorts, cleans, and processes reusable instrumentation and equipment; selects and operates specialized cleaning equipment; follows manufacturer recommendations for cleaning guidelines and proper use of cleaning agents.
+ Identifies, inspects, and assembles, all general and specialty instruments, various power equipment, laser and endoscopes instruments per specifications and manufacturer recommendations.
+ Assembles instruments, complex instrument sets, and other surgical items and kits by selecting the appropriate items, trays, instruments, and arrange them in the correct manner permitting effective sterilization using existing standard operating procedures and surgical case count sheets.
+ Processes complicated procedural sets such as the ear tray, vascular tray, orthopedic specialty, cataract, and lap-cholecystectomy sets and other sets containing very specific and complex instrumentation.

Position Summary
The Sterile Processing Tech is primarily responsible for assisting and supporting the nursing staff in the O.R. by maintaining adequate levels of sterile instruments and supplies used in rendering patient care.
Roles and Responsibilities
Functions as an Instrument Processing Technician under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse.
Cleans and/or disinfects instruments and equipment after use and returns it to the proper area, in appropriate sequence, for storage and/or processing.
Differentiates sterilization and disinfection methods required for specific instruments and equipment.
Completes all documentation to ensure the availability of accurate and up to date information in accordance with established standards.
Maintains area/department in an orderly/organized fashion.
Assists teammates with daily preparation for current and future facility schedules (pulling cases and assembling supplies) as assigned.
May act as scrub technician if experienced and needed in operating rooms or procedure rooms.
Assists in room turnover when needed and as assigned.
Adheres to established facility safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
Practices infection control and standard precautions as instructed or trained.
Experience Requirements
Prior relevant experience in a health care environment
Knowledge of sterilization procedures, aseptic technique, and maintenance and care of instruments and equipment.
Knowledge of standards and engages in practices and procedures of sterile technique.
Demonstrates ability to understand and use sterilizers, high-level disinfectors, instrument washers, and other designated processors.
Education Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred licensure as a Sterile Processing Technician (IAHCSMM and CBSPD)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred

Job Summary:
Performs efficient and meticulous decontamination/sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment, as well as inspecting and assembling surgical instruments, equipment, trays, and packs according to prescribed protocols and industry standards for aseptic technique. Depending on the assigned hospital, incumbents rotate assignments among various decontamination sterilization processing, surgical tray assembly, supply and distribution functions in a continually changing medical and surgical facility. Work also includes: 1) tray assembly, 2) assisting in recordkeeping and monitoring equipment operations, 3) maintaining department inventory and 4) identifying and reporting supply, equipment, and procedure problems and 5) dispensing equipment and supplies.
Incumbents are also accountable for demonstrating awareness of personal and work area safety at all times; using evidence-based practices (EBP) and complying with facility safety policies and procedures in carrying out duties including those for blood borne pathogens and communicable diseases and; keeping knowledge current on aseptic techniques and basic microbiology sufficient to understand the ways diseases and infections are transmitted and the importance of clean and sterile supplies in patient care; attending training in new and improved sterilization practices and developments in the microbiology, bacteriology, and therapeutic practices as they affect the sterile supply operation.
Essential Duties:
Collects and decontaminates and cleans reusable equipment and/or supplies and associated storage units in accordance with department, manufacturer, and OSHA standards.

Education & Experience:
Graduation from the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management Course (preferred) and one year of related work experience that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities, preferably in an operating room, acute care hospital or central services department preferred.
License & Certification:
Current certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) by the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) at hire or within six month of date of hire OR

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
* Decontaminate, process, sterilize and assemble complex arrangements of specialized and intricate surgical instruments, equipment and supplies for surgical procedures following established guidelines
* Prioritize the need for instruments, equipment and supplies based on the scheduled surgical cases, surgeries in process and surgical cases added during the work schedule
* Identify and sort contaminated instruments and equipment
* Disassemble and reassemble items with multiple parts
* Recognize dissembled parts of intricate instruments and equipment; reassemble and/or return to appropriate trays

* Disassemble and decontaminate equipment and instruments using approved disinfectants, detergents, soaps, cleaners and processing methods

Compensation and Benefits

Evaluates, plans for, and properly administers part stock inventories by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock, and entering the correct data amounts into M2M.
Documents repair actions by completing repair and quality administrative paperwork.

The role of the Endoscopy Technician is to support and assist the GI physician under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The technician assists the practitioner in the performance of endoscopic procedures.
