The Licensed Vocational Nurse is responsible for implementing the school's health program and providing direct services to meet the health and safety needs of the students and staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Valid Texas Vocational Nurses License issued by the Texas Board of Nursing
• High School diploma and graduation from an accredited Vocational Nurse Training Program
• AED / CPR certification
• Hearing, vision, spinal, and TRAT2DC screener certifications (can be obtained in-district), preferred
• Must maintain certifications
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Practical working knowledge of nursing procedures and techniques, preferably in the pediatric setting.
Able to remain flexible and adapt to changing demands.
Language Skills:
o Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
o Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents and faculty.
o Able to communicate with faculty, staff, students, parents, and the public in a courteous and

Experience:Minimum two years' experience in community health, pediatric nursing or nursing which includes contact with school-age children.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
1.Accepts supervision and directions from Campus Director.
2.Complies with standards of care as outlined by the Board of Nursing for licensure.
3.Complies with federal guidelines regarding confidentiality of individual student/family issues and concerns (HIPPA, FERPA).

10.Skillfully operates health-related equipment such as blood pressure monitors/cuff, otoscope, audiometer, thermometer, vision and hearing screening
11.Provides for daily care of students with medical needs in the school setting utilizing health protocols and care plans.
12.Provide basic first aid care for minor injuries and illnesses and obtain necessary assistance in cases of serious trauma and /or illness.
13.Accurately administers medications (as ordered by a physician) according to state law and District policy and recognize adverse reactions.
14.Maintains accurate, current, complete health records on each student, including individual daily documentation of student care, medications administered, treatments administered, immunization records, health history, screening results, and follow-up information.
15.May need to participate in the development of the Individual Healthcare Plan (IHP).
16.Performs screening procedures as required by Texas law, Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas Education Agency, and District policy.
17.Identifies health problems and refer students for further evaluation as necessary and follow up on the referrals to obtain optimum health for each student.
18.Communicates daily with essential staff any possible communicable diseases, any changes in students' health status, and any family needs or concerns.
19.Demonstrates knowledge regarding reporting abuse to the appropriate agency according to state laws and District policy.
20.Reports communicable diseases as required by Jefferson County Public Health and Environmental Services according to District policy.
21.Educates faculty/staff as needed on health-related topics.
22.Provides guidance to unlicensed assistive personnel or other school staff on health-related.
23.Adheres to the Texas Department of State Health Services immunization laws, secure records on each student, update as necessary on health card and computerized record.
24.May need to participate in ARDS and IEP meetings as appropriate.
25.Continues to pursue educational opportunities to maintain an optimal level of performance and comply with Board of Nursing LVN license requirements and District requirements.
26.Attends health service nurse meetings and campus meetings.
27.Models behavior that is ethical and responsible.
28.Demonstrates understanding of and compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and Standards of Nursing Practice.
29.Serves on campus crisis team.
30.Reports potential health and safety hazards to Campus Director or Campus Safety Officer.

Student nurse job in Houston, TX
Amergis Healthcare Staffing is seeking an PICU RN to be part of the Pediatric Critical Care Department and manages patients with multi-system failure and a variety of life threatening illnesses. The ICU/CCU nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for assigned patients and is responsible to the Clinical Manager of client facility designee.
Minimum Requirements:
Shows evidence of having graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
Current, legal license in good standing in state of practice.
Shows evidence of one year recent experience in ICU, CCU, PICU, NICU or emergency medicine
Prefers evidence of ACLS, PALS, NRP certification.
Shows evidence of CEU requirements for the state of practice.
Must be able to work with frequent interruptions.
1-3 years complex job related experience, PALS, BLS, and ACLS, as required.
