The Payroll Manager will lead a small team of 2 employees, ensuring accurate and compliant processing of multi-state weekly payroll, handling general ledger reconciliations, and managing tax and garnishment set-ups. Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Processing: Manage and oversee the accurate and timely processing of multi-state weekly payroll for all employees. Ability to run payroll (hands on) when needed.
Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of 2 payroll professionals, ensuring high performance and a collaborative work environment. Partner regularly with benefits team/functions as related to system set up, feeds and benefit deductions.
Compliance: Ensure payroll processes comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including wage and hour, tax filings and reporting.
System Management: Administer and optimize payroll systems (UKG and Workday), ensuring data integrity, system upgrades, and troubleshooting. Experience with implementation of new payroll systems highly desired.
General Ledger: Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure accurate payroll-related entries, reconciliations, and reporting.
Tax Set-Ups: Manage and maintain accurate employee tax setups, including multi-state requirements.
Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements in payroll and time management processes, policies, and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Reporting: Prepare and review payroll reports for internal stakeholders and external audits.
Auditing: Conduct regular audits of payroll data to ensure compliance, accuracy, and integrity.
Training: Develop and provide training materials and lead time management training as scheduled and as needed to employees and managers.
Education & Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of progressive payroll experience, with at least 3 years in a management role
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred (and/or equivalent years of experience). CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification is a plus
Experience in process improvement initiatives related to payroll
Experience processing payroll in Workday
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Deep understanding of multi-state payroll regulations and tax compliance, including California (CA) law
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
Attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive data with confidentiality
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general ledger systems
