At 360 Community Services, staff assume the professional responsibility of providing supervision of students in a safe, supportive and positive classroom climate that develops in each student the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to ensure individualized programs are being followed and process towards IEP goals are met. The Educational Support Professional (I) is responsible for providing compassionate care and support to students with behavioral and developmental disabilities. Responsibilities include assisting individuals with personal hygiene, feeding, administering medications, transporting to/from community outings, and maintaining detailed documentation of all care activities throughout the shift. Principle Duties and Responsibilities: Collaborates with the Special Education team to implement assignments, activities, and modified curricula aligned with IEP goals Ensures all students are treated with respect and dignity, recognizing individual needs and encourages independence--Additionally, develops a rapport with students and cultivate a safe and supportive relationship Follows daily schedules and school procedures, delivering student programming as directed Monitors and support student behavior, intervening as needed and working with individuals or small groups (e.g., the duration, the intensity, and the damage, factors that may alleviate or aggravate the behavior) Maintains the safety and security of the students through line-of-right supervision Implements approved de-escalation and physical intervention techniques when necessary Assists students with functional academics (e.g., counting money, reading signs), daily living, and vocational skills Assists students with and work to strengthen the many daily living needs including but not limited to nutrition, hygiene, exercise, communication, and socialization skills Maintains accurate documentation of student progress, activities, behavior plans, and incident reports Builds positive relationships with students, staff, and external partners in a professional manner Oversees arrivals and departures of students and documents attendance times in the student electronic record Transports students to community outings or field trips using a company van or personal vehicle. Essential Functions Assumes responsibility for the orientation of new employees to the unit. • Creates an orientation program for each role in the unit. • Develops, implements, and evaluates , sterile processing unit specific skills classes for new employees. • Collaborates with unit manager to counsel/coach new employees during orientation to assist the orientee's progress towards gaining competency in unit standards/skills. • Supports the preceptor role by: • Collaborating with CN, department leaders and preceptor to select appropriate assignments and learning experiences for new staff. • Fostering the use of adult learning strategies and critical thinking with preceptors by providing ideas, skill stations, different teaching styles, and related activities to help the preceptor be a more effective teacher. • Participating in the development, presentation, and evaluation of the preceptor program, in collaboration with other area educators and CNS's. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of staff education processes through the development, implementation, and evaluation of education materials/systems. • Collaborates with appropriate resources (i.e. leadership team, CNSs, other educators, content experts, organization development) to analyze needs and develop, implement, evaluate and maintain education programs (i.e. orientation skills checklists, self-studies, education videos, education supplies, and orientation manual) based on annual needs assessment, staff request, unit direction, new equipment/care practices, variance trends, and patient/parent and other customers' satisfaction. • Educational activities reflect identified needs of the target audience and/or organizational priorities related to clinical practice. • Designs each educational activity to include documentation of a needs assessment, description of target audience, educational objectives, content outline, teaching methods (Cornerstone, self-study, presentation, real-time, simulation), evaluation strategies, and designation of appropriate resources (i.e. room arrangements, AV equipment, handouts, other teaching aids). • Creates programs that incorporate adult learning strategies, ethical principles, critical thinking skills, professional growth, open communication, and collaborative relationships. • Quality of information developed is professional with regards to organization of information, clarity of instructions, attention to details, and presentation style. • Identifies staff's individual talent in order to assist in their personal and professional development by: • Sharing ideas, experiences, and successful behavior patterns. • Establishing a relationship with the staff as a resource. • Providing a supportive framework to guide career development. Role models and promotes high quality professional patient care through the use of clinical educational knowledge as seen in: • Assisting staff with direct patient care • Reviews case cart and preference card before each case. Prepares the operating room by supplying it with supplies and instruments to provide appropriate patient care oSets up and maintains the sterile field during the procedure using strict aseptic technique oPrepares and labels fluids and medications on sterile field oPerforms appropriate counts prior to the operation and before incision is closed. oParticipates in time out/sign out process • Scrubs to assist the surgeon in the completion of surgical procedures by demonstrating a working knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment needed for a variety of procedures. • o Anticipates the needs of the surgeon, passing instruments and providing sterile items in an efficient manner, as directed by the surgeon/proceduralist. • Implements sharps safety practices including use of a safety zone. • Prepares specimens for pathologic analysis • Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization • Assists operating room team with environmental cleaning and case turnovers. • Stores and stocks supplies as needed • Participates in assigned on call activities. • Utilizes unit daily/weekly rounding as a tool in identifying educational clinical needs of staff/unit and teaches bedside staff to promote • consistent delivery of patient care standards. • Accepts assignment to be assigned to the unit for shift for direct patient care. Professionally supports the assigned unit as seen through interactions with patients, families, staff, colleagues, others. • Professionally seeks opportunities to help teammates during shift as needed. • Serves as preceptor for new staff within OR/SPD and other education staff as necessary. • Demonstrates ability to prioritize workload and follows through with work in a timely manner.
