1902

In 1902, a group of community minded women formed the original Batavia Hospital.

1917

In 1917, the Sisters of Mercy opened St Jerome Hospital after Batavia resident Rose Jerome willed her family home on Bank Street to the order for use as a school or hospital.

1920

The first hospital to open in Searcy was the Wakenight Sanitarium in 1920.

1967

The hospital has changed through various phases and services and has kept its home in Searcy since 1967.

1985

1985: Doctor Jesse Barber and Doctor Janelle Goetcheus co-founded Health Care for the Homeless Project (HCHP)

1987

1987: HCHP became one of 13 public-private partnership grantees awarded funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

1989

In 1989, White County Memorial Hospital became the first hospital in Arkansas to offer labor, delivery and recovery in one setting.

1992

Current President and CEO of Unity Health Ray Montgomery became administrator in 1992.

1995

In 1995, the hospital became a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit corporation.

1996

“A Day of Caring,” Unity Health’s largest medical mission, has been held since 1996 to serve thousands of uninsured and underinsured citizens of White County.

1996: At the request of the federal government, HCHP took over management and the revitalization of the Upper Cardozo and East of the River health centers

1997

In 1997, St Mary’s Hospital merged with Park Ridge Hospital (now Unity Hospital) to form Unity Health System.

1997: HCHP officially changed its name to Unity Health Care as care expanded from serving primarily homeless persons to all District residents, regardless of ability to pay

1998

The first ambulatory care facility in the area was completed in 1998.

2000

United Memorial Medical Center was formed by the merger of Genesee Memorial and St Jerome Hospitals on January 1, 2000.

2000: Opened first school-based health center at Eastern High School

2001

2001: At the request of the District government, Unity began providing care at the former DC Public Benefit Corporation clinics

2005

In 2005, Searcy became the smallest community in Arkansas with two hospitals.

2006

2006: Implemented a community-based correctional health care model at the DC Jail

2007

In 2007, Unity Health System celebrated the 150th anniversary of the founding of St Mary’s Hospital.

2011

In 2011 the Cancer Center of Excellence was completed through a White County Medical Foundation capital campaign supported by donors.

The daVinci Robotics-Assisted Surgical System was purchased in 2011.

2013

In 2013, the Orthopaedic and Spine Center was created as a comprehensive center to better care for patients from diagnosis to surgery and therapy.

2013: Entered partnership with A.T. Still University and The Wright Center to establish the first Residency and Medical Training Community Campus in the District of Columbia

2014

In December 2014, White County Medical Center announced a name change of its organization to Unity Health to encompass the growth and expansion the hospital had undergone.

In 2014, 11 Auxilians joined Ray Montgomery, president/CEO, on a bus ride to the Capitol to advocate for healthcare.

2014: Recognized as a Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home which emphasizes care coordination and patient/provider communication

2015

15, 2015, Unity Health purchased Harris Hospital in Newport (Jackson County) and its affiliated clinics.

The Graduate Medical Education program (GME) was launched in 2015, and Physician Residents of Osteopathic Medicine can complete their medical education at Unity Health in psychiatry, family medicine, internal medicine and emergency medicine.

2016

In 2016, Unity Health became the first Mayo Clinic Care Network member in Arkansas.

2016: Began providing homeless medical respite services at The Patricia Handy Place for Women so those most in need can safely recover from a physical illness or injury

2018

2018: Launched a new Logo and Website

2019

2019: East of the River Health Center opened a new location in partnership with So Others Might Eat and Howard University Hospital to offer specialized care in high-risk maternal and fetal medicine, oncology, behavioral health, and substance abuse treatment and counseling
