How We Determined the Best Cities for Service Technicians

At Zippia, we engage with a diverse range of job seekers and have identified two primary concerns among them:

  • Job Availability
  • Salary

To pinpoint the best cities for service technicians in the U.S., we focused on job availability and salary data. The criteria for our analysis, sourced from the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Employment Statistics, included:

  • Location Quotient: This indicates how concentrated a job is in a specific area.
  • Average Annual Salary.
  • Average Annual Salary for Entry-Level Positions.

To ensure fair comparisons across cities, we adjusted salary figures based on the cost of living in each state.

This analysis encompassed 410 metropolitan areas across the country, identifying the primary area of each metro as the “city” for our study. For instance, the “Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA NECTA Division” is simplified to Boston.

We ranked each city based on the above criteria from 1 to 410, where 1 represents the best conditions. The overall score was averaged to determine the best city for service technicians.
