How We Figured This Out
To figure out what gift every state was leaning toward for Mother’s Day 2022, we started by curating a top ten list outlining the most popular Mother’s Day gifts in the United States. This took a little bit of research and struggle, but eventually, we narrowed down the list.

After determining the top ten most popular Mother’s Day gifts in the United States for 2022, we took this information over to Google Trends. We use Google Trends to show us how much each state is searching for a particular search term.
For this specific topic, we used included the phrase “Mother’s Day” before every search term. That way, we weeded out the people who were just searching for these things for their moms as opposed to for other reasons.
In practice, here’s how it works. We input “Mother’s Day Earrings” into Google Trends as a search term. Then, Google Trends presents a list ranking the different areas of the United States based on how much they’re searching for Mother’s Day Earrings right now.
So, we were able to see that Georgia, Florida, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania all had high rates of searching for “Mother’s Day Earrings.”
We continued with this process for each item on the top ten list until we discovered what every state’s top Mother’s Day gift choice for 2022 was.
