Under general supervision, performs skilled work in the proper operation of motorized maintenance equipment used in the maintenance of assigned areas of the department. Work involves driving a truck; hauling away trees that were cut down; flushing out drains; cleaning out debris; and hauling asphalt. Reports to the Superintendent or assigned Foreman. Duties of Responsibilities ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Vehicle Equipment Operator II's perform a variety of work according to assigned work and/or supervisor. Duties may include the following: Performs general grounds keeping and drain maintenance such as cutting grass, weed eating, etc. Cleans and rebuilds drains. Repairs potholes on streets. Picks up trash. Assists Building Maintenance and Recreation with holiday decorations. Performs light maintenance on trucks and small engine repairs on vehicles. Moves furniture. Follows safety guidelines and wears related safety equipment. Receives and/or reviews various records and report such as work orders, memorandums from department, and electronic mail. Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as vehicle inspection sheet, work orders, completed work orders, drainage streets, log. Refers to radio call sheets, Equipment Operator instructions, handbook, policy and procedure manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc. Operates a variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery such as flatbed truck, vactor truck, lawn mower, bush hog, chipper, etc. Uses a variety of tools such as shovel, rake, pick, sledgehammer, wheel barrel, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as cement, garbage bags, weed eater parts, weed killer, oil, etc. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Superintendent, Foreman, Crew Chiefs, Assistant Director, and the general public. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Assembles tents. Cuts trees when needed. May supervise a crew when needed. Performs other related duties as required. Essential duty status position, will be required to report to work during emergency situations, including, but not limited to, city-wide declared emergencies. Minimum Qualifications Requires two to three years of experience performing phases of grounds and facilities maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. RETIREMENT SYSTEM: The City of Kenner's regular full time employees are enrolled with the Municipal Employees Retirement System of Louisiana. Both the City of Kenner and the employee contribute the required percent to the system. The employee's contributions are kept on account and will be refunded, if the employees leaves employment before they are retirement eligible. DEFERRED COMPENSATION: The City of Kenner currently participates in a 457 Plan with MassMutual. This is a voluntary investment program that the employees are allowed to participate in at a contribution rate of their choice (must be within the designated maximum and minimum limits, as set for by Plan Document). The City of Kenner does not contribute to the 457 Plan. HOLIDAYS: Sixteen paid official holidays are observed, plus any other holidays which may be declared by the Mayor. ANNUAL AND SICK LEAVE: Eligible Kenner employees earn annual leave and sick leave. Accrual of hours will increase based on the number of years of service. WORKING TEST PERIOD: Upon appointment to a position in the classified service, the employee shall serve a working test period of six (6) months, unless extended.
