The Plant Operations Apprentice Level I will be introduced to, learn and support safe work practices and skills for the operation and maintenance of a combined cycle energy facility and simple cycle energy facility. Apprentice Level I will provide entry level support in both areas of operations and maintenance. The individual will learn, assist and be mentored on performing operator rounds, troubleshooting, preventive, corrective and predictive maintenance on plant systems/equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations, as well as learn about the safety, environmental, reliability and corporate policies/procedures for compliance and governmental regulations. Individual will be responsible for working toward completion of all requirements listed in Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program as power-plant operator. Required Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Experience: Entry Level-Experience in skilled trades such as construction, electrical, maintenance, automotive, welding preferred. Specialized Skills: A strong ability to work in a team environment. The ability to extract, comprehend and develop instructions from technical manuals, journals, and drawings, technical literature, and other job-related material; and to effectively communicate orally and in writing using the English language. The ability to discern the colors red, green, amber and blue as used in troubleshooting electrical diagrams, control system process and in color coding used in electronic and electrical component repairs. The ability to lift weights or twist with a force of up to 75 pounds, as in the removal and replacement of access doors to equipment, turning of valves, and hoisting of material overhead. The ability to work in confined spaces and at heights, as in entering internal areas of the turbine for inspection or repairs during outages, climbing ladders to gain access, working within tight quarters of surrounding piping and conduit to perform troubleshooting functions. Responsibilities The Apprentice (HVAC or Refrigeration) provides support to an installation team by completing tasks in a safe, prompt, accurate, and professional manner and following customer specifications, applicable building codes and proper piping practices. Install equipment, by project requirements and under the direction of a senior technician: HVAC: air handler drains, piping for split systems, overhead duct hangers and ductwork, etc. Refrigeration: display case drains, walk-in box drains, overhead hangers, and piping, etc. Perform all assigned work safely and responsibly. Use power and hand tools, powered vehicles, machinery, and PPE as directed and required by Source, customer, and contract policy. Escalate problems and concerns (safety, quality of work, etc. ) to on-site senior technicians or project managers promptly. Always maintain clean and professional job sites/work areas. Properly store, disassemble, or remove all spare and waste materials created on assigned job sites. Provide assistance and support to senior technician/s on a job. Carry out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical, and professional manner. Perform other duties as assigned. Installation of all types of piping including PVC, copper (brazing), copper line sets Qualifications Education or experience equivalent to a High school diploma, GED, or completion from trade program or technical school. 1+ years of experience in the construction, refrigeration, HVAC, or other related industry/trade preferred. Ability to operate a scissor lift or forklift preferred. Knowledge of job site safety, and ability to perform work by safe work practices and rules. Ability to use basic power and hand tools including drills, fuel gas tools, electrical meters, measurement tools, etc. Ability to be punctual and dependable. Ability to work in a variety of working conditions, including scaling ladders to various heights, outdoors in hot/cold temperatures, in noisy environments, etc. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations including fractional addition/subtraction, multiplication, division, and measurements. Ability to read, write, and communicate timely, clearly, and concisely. Ability to work constructively in a team environment and follow instructions from senior technicians. Ability to understand and follow all company policies and procedures and all applicable State and Federal laws. Good driving record.
