Our research group is focused on developing state-of-the-art computational methods for ligand/drug discovery, using machine learning, high-performance/cloud computing, and quantum chemistry and quantum computing. Our group also includes a wet lab dedicated to experimentally verifying the computationally predicted results in real-world drug discovery projects.
You will join an interdisciplinary team to push the boundaries of what's possible at the intersection of artificial intelligence and molecular modeling, building novel AI systems to advance discovery in chemistry, ligand discovery, and quantum approaches.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead collaborative projects, mentor junior scientists and students, and contribute to high-impact publications. The position can be a Postdoc position or a Computational Researcher position, depending on the preference of the candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and optimize quantum machine learning methods for problems in molecular modeling (e.g. drug discovery and/or quantum chemistry)
Collaborate with computational chemists, structural biologists, and experimental scientists within the QAI4Bio Lab and the broader Structural Biology Department.
Collaborate closely with domain scientists to define impactful research directions and translate theory into practice
Contribute to large-scale computational pipelines for tasks such as molecular property prediction, drug discovery, or quantum circuit design
Publish high-quality research in top-tier journals and conferences
Work with colleagues to deploy models into production research platforms or scientific software tools
Required Qualifications:
Proven hands-on experience (3+ years preferred) in quantum computing and quantum machine learning research and development
Proficiency in deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
Proficiency in quantum computing frameworks such as Qiskit, CUDA Q, Pennylane, ...
Excellent programming skills in Python.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment

Expertise in quantum chemistry

**How will you make an impact?**
You will be responsible for development of pioneering methods and protocols for cryo FIB milling with plasma FIB (pFIB) within the electron Cryo-Electron Tomography (Cryo-ET) and Volume EM workflows, using our groundbreaking Arctis and Hydra Bio cryo-plasma-FIBs. You will coordinate applications development for our cryo-FIB projects with our collaborators in a world-class cryo-imaging lab. Your role will involve cryo FIB milling to prepare cellular lamella and optimizing methods for sample preparation, with the ultimate goal of performing cryo-Electron Tomography on our Krios cryo-Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) instruments. Additionally, you will develop methods and workflows for volume imaging of high pressure frozen cellular and tissue samples using cryo Auto Slice & View and related technologies on the pFIB dual beam systems. You will build a network within the scientific community through collaborations with new and leading customers and help shape the future of cryo EM.
**Deliverables and responsibilities:**
Develop and evaluate FIB milling and volume imaging strategies with plasma FIB on cells and tissues. Work with collaborators for training users (on site and remotely) and develop and implement proof of concept experiments with challenging samples. Your contributions will support directly the customer's scientific endeavor as well as feed directly into new product development at Thermo Fisher.

**How to get here:**
This position is ideal for an expert in focused ion beam (FIB) electron microscopy, ideally with a familiarity in both cryo-FIB milling and TEM sample preparation. Strong technical understanding of FIB theory and technology as well as experience with Plasma FIB instrumentation is a crucial requirement. A background or experience with biological questions and samples is desirable but not a requirement for the role.

+ An advanced degree (e.g .PhD, MSc) in the fields of Physics, Biophysics and related or equivalent fields.

Key Responsibilities
* Conducts complex chemical and physical testing of pharmaceutical raw materials, packaging components, finished products, microbiological, and stability samples by internally developed and compendial test methods.
* Executes proficiency in development and transfer/verification/validation of test methods for pharmaceutical raw materials and finished products for strength, impurities, identity, and dissolution by HPLC, GC, dissolution, KF, spectroscopy, and traditional quantitative analysis, utilizing HPLC, GC, dissolution, KF, spectroscopy, and/or traditional wet chemical testing under general supervision
* Recognizes and reports out-of-specification or unexpected results and non-routine analytical and product problems; recommends solutions
* Maintains and troubleshoots analytical instrumentation as needed
* Clearly and accurately communicates the results of work by creating documentation of the testing/analysis and obtained results. Records and reports results of analysis in accordance with prescribed lab procedures and systems. May interact with clients.
* Prepares and assists in filing regulatory documents in support of internal projects and may provide communications with outside departments, corporate sites, agencies, and clients.
* Writes SOPs and other instructional documents
* Cleans and organizes work area, instrumentation, and testing materials
* Maintains the necessary compliance status required by company and facility standards
Experience
* BS, MS or PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Pharmaceutical Science or related
Work Experience
* BS with 2+ years' Pharmaceutical industry experience or similar
* Experience working with potent, cytotoxic materials and parenteral drug products preferred
Competencies
* Proficiency using chemistry and analytical instrumental technologies
* Knowledge of quality and regulatory requirements in the pharmaceutical industry, including pharmaceutical GMPs and descriptive organic chemistry.

Basic

This role involves advancing the electromagnetic isotope separation technology and the plasma separation process. Our isotopic products enable a wide variety of applications, including curing cancer with radiopharmaceuticals, conducting basic scientific research, and ensuring our national security. The position will integrate into an existing research team, focusing on plasma and ion beam science and technology to enhance isotope enrichment systems.
Purpose:
The Enrichment Science and Engineering Division focuses on advancing enrichment technologies and exploring stable isotope production and applications. The division leverages scientists and engineers' expertise and capabilities of Oak Ridge National Laboratory to deliver advancements with various applications, including national security and medical treatments. ESED oversees the research, development, and demonstration of enrichment technologies and manages the nation's stable isotope inventory. The successful candidate will plan and conduct research and development (R&D) to advance plasma science and technology to support plasma-based enrichment systems, including Electromagnetic Isotope Separation (EMIS). This position involves integrating into the existing research team, learning current enrichment technologies, and developing expertise over time.
ESED integrates the entire enrichment process, from chemical synthesis of feed materials to fabrication of custom physical forms. The successful candidate will engage in all aspects of the enrichment enterprise, supporting applied research, improving existing equipment and processes, and prototyping new equipment for isotope enrichment. They will work closely with scientists, technicians, and engineers on technical projects in support of the DOE Isotope Program and other DOE missions. Major Duties/Responsibilities:
* Apply advanced concepts in plasma physics, ion beam transport, plasma chemistry, ion-surface interactions, and related technologies to develop and deploy plasma-based enrichment technologies, including EMIS.

Main Purpose and Objectives:
Lilly is seeking a process chemist to join its Lebanon API TS/MS (Technical Services/Manufacturing Science) team. This position is responsible for designing and executing lab experimentation aimed to transfer processes, characterize processes, troubleshoot process upsets, and provide recommendations for process improvements.
The TS/MS Process Scientist is part of the Lilly Lebanon API TS/MS laboratory team. This position will be small molecule focused and will require interaction with Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Procurement, Warehouse, Regulatory departments, and other Lilly sites. Knowledge of chemistry and understand the scientific principles required for the manufacturing and testing of intermediates and bulk drug substances is required. Knowledge of organic synthesis and experience in API manufacturing are a plus. Knowledge of peptide synthesis is a plus.

* Complete laboratory experimentation aimed at achieving the successful process development and transfer

Accurately documents all necessary and relevant information in a clear and concise manner per cGMP requirements
Responsible in the development of analytical chemistry procedures to determine the identity, purity, stability, and other characteristics of samples that are analyzed
Author and execute method validation protocols

Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in chemistry, biology, or related science
2+ years of pharmaceutical experience or equivalent.
Self-starter and ability to work independently
Strong written/verbal communication and presentation skills
Able to work flexible schedules on a short notice
Ability to be a team player/work well with others
