We seek candidates who use innovative experimental and/or computational approaches to study immune system function in health and disease, with a particular emphasis on autoimmune and immune-mediated diseases. We particularly encourage investigators in the following areas to apply: B cell biology, tissue immunity, innate immunity, systems immunology, and stromal-immune interactions. Description: Variable schedule ACLS, BLS, and PALS required Supervises nursing and hospital operations on assigned shift at Central Hospital. Coordinates patient bed placement activities for admissions and internal and external transfers to match patient care need with appropriate nursing unit. Supervises staff placement to meet short term clinical staffing needs. Responsible for activities to maximize patient flow to provide seamless admissions, transfers, and discharges to minimize diversions, delays, or denials of patients. Functions as on-site administrative representative in the absence of regular hospital administration. Supports the mission of the organization. Essential Responsibilities: Directs/manages hospital operations on assigned shift to ensure that appropriate safe patient care is provided and patient/family needs are met. Rounds on all patient units to identify patient placement needs, available beds with assigned staff and staff capacity to safely take additional admissions, at least once every three (3) to four (4) hours. Their studies encompass chemotherapy, radiation, targeted therapies, diagnostic test development, and quality of life/symptom management. Annually, over 100 cancer-related clinical studies are conducted, including those sponsored by the National Cancer Institute and industry partners. The Cancer Clinical Research Unit is actively engaged in various cancer research areas, with ongoing clinical research studies. The goal of the Lacy-Hulbert Lab is to understand how different aspects of the immune system cooperate to identify and combat potentially infectious organisms while preventing immune attack against innocuous microbes or the body's own self. This position is up to 19 hours a week, within the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday (exact schedule to be determined). The goal of the Harrison Lab is to understand how immune cells promote barrier tissue integrity and repair, and to understand how this goes awry during disease. This work-study position is for up to 19 hours each week. Responsibilities The individual in this position will be involved in projects exploring the immune response to commensal and pathogenic bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract. The techniques likely to be used include DNA isolation, PCR and gel electrophoresis to conduct genotyping, basic flow cytometry of circulating blood immune cell populations, tissue sectioning, immunofluorescence staining and microscopy. They will also be responsible for general laboratory duties including preparation of stock solutions, lab stocking and maintenance. Students will gain experience in the following areas: conduct DNA isolation, perform PCR and gel electrophoresis, and determine sample genotype. Conduct tissue dissection and cell isolation. Conduct cell staining and basic flow cytometry. Stock lab supplies, prepare reagents, autoclave. This position is solely open to candidates who are work-study eligible.
